  • LT-4 vs. LT-1 heads

I have a question about what i should do. I have a 95 T/A with 85000 miles. Hooker longtubes, x pipe, msd ignition, underdrive pulleys, cold air, jet stage 2 chip.

I have an opportunity of a life time. I can get a 40% discount on all parts that i can order. My first idea was to use my heads and have them ported with larger valves, cam, and a few other things. Now with this chance i can order the LT-4 kit for under $1500.

My Question: Which way should i go and which will give me the most horsepower.

well the lt1 heads when ported correctly can outflow the lt4 heads by a longshot. I would buy a new cam, port the heads and spend some more money on some other go fast goodies. make sure you build your trans and rear end up tho and do some suspension mods to get all that power to the ground or you'll be spiining.

And by the same token, when properly ported, the LT4 castings will outflow the ported LT1 castings. LT4 heads have a raised intake runner and a better short side radius and intake port shape that makes them a better head overall. When ported equally, the LT4 head will make more power.

true that but then you got to pay the money for the lt4 heads(not cheap) and then pay for the port and polish (def. not cheap) i would just port the lt1 IMO. then again its up to you bro

LT4 kits come with the LT4 cylinder heads. And if he can get the entire kit for $1500, then the choice to go with the LT4 stuff is a no-brainer.
