  • Richmond Gears VS. SLP Loudmouth

I finally found a guy to install by gears in my area for a decent price. Now I'm ready to order my gears and installation kit. Do you guys think that the SLP Loudmouth on my car will hide the noise that the Richmond gears will make? Are Richmond gears really stronger than GM Motive and Strange gears. I can buy Richmond and Strange for $150 so is the noise from the Richmond worth the trade? I also was wondering where i could get a Ratech solid spacer to replace the crush sleeve. Thanks for the help.

Richmond gears have been known to make a wining noise while driving. If you do a search for Richmond gears you will find some people supporting this.

i had richmond gears in my other 94 Z and they were quite as can be, no noise what so ever. i think installation has a lot to do with the gears making noise, and how long they last

I have Richmond 3.42's in my car, and they whine a little bit, especially during deceleration. The noise however is masked by the exhaust, so it isn't a problem at all. Richmond might be your only choice depending on what series carrier you have. I dont think GM Motive makes a set for series 2 carriers .

yes to answer your question, the loud mouth will definately cover up any sounds your car makes, gears or worse

When I had a 10 bolt, I installed Richmond gears, and only had a very slight noise at 40 mph, but otherwise was quiet, much quieter than this Moser that I got. And this was a rear end that I set up myself, so a pro should be able to nail it. Some guys don't like them, but I had no issues with them and they are stronger than your axles and spider gears anyway. Now my 10 bolt is living out his life in another guy's car as far as I know, Richmond gears and all.

Get "Strange" gears. They work for series 2 carrier with spacer, and I was told no noise.
