  • Switch under dash?

The other day i was replacing my turn signal flasher on my car, and as i stuck my paw underneath the dash to loosen up those couple bolts, i noticed that i hit some button i didn't even know was there. So i got down to get a better look, and to the left of the diagnostic port, there is a small black pushbutton with a small toggle switch next to it. The switch reads "on" and "off". I was wondering if this is from the factory, or if it was installed for some reason by the previous owner before i got the car.

Also, what does this switch and button do? Ever since i pushed that button, my alarm won't work anymore. My car will lock/unlock from my keychain buttons as always, but the alarm won't activate anymore. I'm guessing that button and switch have something to do with my alarm system

Any input on this or how to get my alarm back would be appreciated

    Thanks guys

sounds like a valet feature on the alarm, id push it one more time and if that doesnt work, then take it to a place that installs that type of alarm and they can re activate it or atleast get you an instruction manual for it

The toggle switch is the valet switch. One way disables the alarm in case you want to turn off your alarm, the other way is to turn the alarm on. On my 93-z
the alarm will set it self about 20-30 seconds after you turn the engine off. The button overides the kill switch to the starter. With the alarm sounding, push that button and the engine will start..I lost my keybob so i keep mine in valet all the time unless i want the alarm to turn on than i use that button and when the engine starts i turn the valet switch to the opposite side and it puts it in valet.. Hope this answers your question..

At least i know what that is now. I figured it had something to do with the alarm, but i have never even heard of a valet alarm until today which could explain why i was stumped

          Thanks guys, appreciate it

Which switch does what depends on what alarm is in there. There are some DEI's that come with 2 switches, one for valet and one for the anticarjack feature. You probably need to take it to a shop and let them get you a manual, as was stated earlier. If you hit the wrong switch, you won't be able to drive the car.
