  • Removal of Ground Effects

I'm thinking of pulling the ground effects off. I think firebirds look a lot better without anything extra tacked on (or technically just the Trans Am as the other models don't have the ground effects). What would removing them involve? I know someone that owns a body shop so i was thinking of having him do it just so that i don't mess anything up. I barely have any time to do anything between work and school but once i get some time and a little bit more money, i'm going to start modifying my car and i think it will look 10 times better without the side skirts. Thanks for any input.
Red 95 Trans Am: M6, Moroso CAI, Magnaflow, Spohn sway bars, back to life as of 2/15/10!!!
    SOLD- Kinda miss it
94 Del Sol VTEC: 27 city/ 33 highway, knee deep in slowness
    SOLD- Good riddance!
2006 Ford Fusion: 2.3, 5 speed, could run 15lbs of boost with a 150 shot and it'd still be slow

Bro, your car looks killer man, I say you should keep it. I like the look of the effect kit, especially from the rear view. If you're dead set on removing it, I would try it myself, unless your buddy is gonna do it free. It's just bolted on, isn't it? If it is it shouldn't be hard to remove.

Killer ride man, leave those on

One thing to remember is that to do a full removal you will have to swap the rear bumper cover for a formula one.

Actually, I don't think you can. I believe the ground effects are molded onto the rocker panels, fenders and bumpers. You would have to swap all of the body panels that have the actual ground effects in order to effectively remove them. Its not quite as easy as it is on the Camaro. Someone with a 4th Gen T/A could probably pipe in and either confirm or correct this, but if I'm right you're looking at a lot more work than you want to do. Why do you want to remove them? Just for the look or for clearance?

Heheh, thanks for the compliments guys. I wish i had a few hundred to get a WS6 style ram air hood but i'm pretty broke now lol. JM94Camaro- I was really mad at my mom kept shoving in my face that she and my stepdad (not really my mom at all but she likes to think she had something to do with it) helped me take out a loan for the car and helped me finance it. I made every payment but my stepdad loaned me the money so i could buy it and then just pay him back. She decided to back off after we talked it over so now i'm not selling it. My life is a big ball of chaos lol. I never have time to do anything between work and school, i'm still to go to the neurologist from what....like....7 months ago? My mom goes from trying to help me to being completely against me. Here's an example- "Mom, i can't wait, i have all kinds of plans for my car". Depending on her mood i'll either get- "Why don't you sell your firebird and take that money to use toward a loan on a new one?" (she knows how bad i want an LS1 with a WS6 package). Alternatively i'll get "You can't go dumping money into your car. It's fine how it is. It's reliable and that's all you need".
The car is staying. I'll sell my mom before i sell my car lol.

If you're going to remove the side moldings/ground effects they will leave small but noticeable holes all along the lengh of the rocker panel, thats where the mounting clips go in. You would have to body work to cover it up and painted. I don't think it's worth it. For the front and rear you would just have to get forumla or regular firebird bumpers. Personaly I don't like the regular pumper covers on the formula in the rear, the exhaust tips stick out rather in a awkward way. thats my 2 cents

HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I love that one man!

Dude, leave the ground effects on. Makes the car look sweet and sets it off from the rest of the pack.

That is so true - those that have the ground effects want them gone - those that don't have them want them. Well, not me, but others that i have talked to!
