I'm inclined to agree with Fred. The EGR valve is acting up in my Z and the only time it affects the car is under load at low engine speed when trying to accelerate in too high a gear. At idle, fine. WOT, fine. In fact, anything above about 1800 rpm she's fine. Not blocking off the hole where the valve sits properly can cause the symptoms you mention...its called a vacuum leak, and a big one at that. In fact, the only time I've had the EGR system affect any of my 3 vehicles was on my Jeep when it was stuck OPEN, thus creating a vacuum leak. He idled like crap. However, since the valve under all conditions EXCEPT cruising, removing the valve and properly blocking it will give the exact same results as actually having it there.

Injuneer, your information seems to pertain to fourth generations w/ LT1. My information is for third generations w/ 305s and 350s. Sorry if there was any confusion

That's my whole point... you can't just slap the 3rd Gen info on a 4th Gen... doesn't help anybody. For Example, the intake manifold leak on the LT1 is a well-known problem among 4th Gen enthusiasts. Ken C. (Wolfman) wrote what is the definitive "fix" procedure at least 6 years ago, and it was "blessed" by a GM engineer. We don't just pull this stuff out of our anal orifices

Which, as Fred stated, is why he posted what he has. Look at the year of the car at the beginning of the thread. Obviously its not gonna have a 3rd Gen motor. Whether your info. is vaild or not on the 3rd Gen. is a different story, but the experiences you used to back up your standing have no relevance to the LT1. Also, you might want to specify which 350s your information is good for, since the LT1 is also a 350.
