Well, I went to an impound auction on Saturday in hopes that I could find a replacement for my Blazer. The old Blazer needs some TLC. I found the perfect vehicle, an '89 Suburban with the custom interior, all the options, nice paint, etc., etc. It was towed because it had a blown motor. It also needed a new fender and little work on the hood along with replacing both rear 1/4 glass panels. Well, I have a new motor on a stand from an '87 fuelie 'Burban, an entire front clip, new wheels and tires, and both 1/4 panels sitting at my house. I was so excited. Anyhow, the bidding came and I won the 'burban for $500. I looked at my co-worker, who was with me, and I was so excited. I went into my pocket to get my number, and as I was raising it, they wrote down the number of somebody else on the windshield. I yelled out, "that is not my number." The auctioneer sarcastically shouted, "you need to bid to win." I was stunned and disoriented. The people around me were like, "[EDIT]" I went and talked to some of the people running it, and they were like you need to be more assertive in bidding...what? I quickly found out that the person who got the truck was an employee of the Automotive Reconditioning Center that runs the impound lot. In addition to being an employee, he was standing behind the auctioneer biding. The auctioneer specifically said at the beginning of the auction that this will not be allowed. This really [EDIT] to me. I left and went home so I wouldn't lose my temper. I came back an hour later to get all of the info. from the auctioneer, such as his license number, item number, and so-called winner. As I was talking to one of the Police Officers, gathering the info. for me, the auctioneer halts the auction to come over and yell at me. I didn't say anything except that he will need to deal with his licensing authority. Colorado statute gives this authority to the county commissioners, and I know one of the county commissioners fairly well...he was a State Representative. I am going to throw a few wrenches at this guys retention of his license. Anyhow, my co-worker and I are stunned that the auctioneer claims that I never bid and that I didn't say anything until he was two cars down....what? I bid three times and my final bid was the $500 winner...what a lying sack. Yep, this is how I lost my $500 truck and to top it off I needed to get my furnace fixed and the well room that leads to my crawl space flooded and the service techs wouldn't enter the room until I pump it all out. (what a weekend
