  • Road Racing with a blower?

Good idea? Bad idea? Doing a fresh build. Traditionally, been running high compression 350, major headwork, huge cam, longtubes, intake work, etc. etc. Thinking of doing 383 and/or low compression (8.5:1) pistons with lots of boost. Question is, does this work with road racing (high revs + heat + time) or will this work for the strip only? I know compression and short stroke works. Any input would be appreciated.

What kind of car is your engine going in, and what type of engine are you using, Gen 1 SBC, LT1, LS1, etc. etc?

I dont think you would need it. plus the extra weight. Most SCCA car only have 300-400 RWHP. more than that and your going to smoke you tires ALOT

        This is going in a '96 F-bod, LT-1/4 block.

In response to the "whether you need it or not comment". Agreed and understood.

I guess I just figure if I am going to spend the time and $$ to build a motor, why not get every last HP out of it. I figure a 3600 lb F-body is not really all that great of a car for handling anyhow (as opposed to a lighter car such as a Porche etc) so why not go overkill on the motor.

        550-600hp sounds so nice!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I live in CA so if I so much as put a sticker on my car, the smog police come and hunt me down, impound my car, take me to jail etc. etc.. Therefore, if this thing has to stay off the streets, I may as well go all the way or don't go at all. Also looking into registering it in FLA. Anyone have any experience with that?
