  • Trans AM Formula and Firebird Formula- Any difference?

1996 PONTIAC FIREBIRD FORMULA, 5.7 Ram air, 6 SPD, red, black cloth interior, 70K miles, loaded up, only $7299. I saw this on autotrader. I was looking for a TA but if there is no difference...

Can anyone direct me to a site with packages and model descriptions?

The difference between the Trans Am and the Firebird Formula is mainly appearance. Underneath they are the same. The options are a little different but you could load up a Formula just like a Trans Am. The Trans Am has a "platform" rear spoiler, side skirts, and a different nose cone. It is all a matter of personal preference, I had a Formula and now have a Trans Am - I love them both!

If it is a true WS6 car, then it is EXTREMELY rare. Why? Cloth interior. I have one, and on the SLP board, one of the guys who used to work for SLP and assembled the WS6 TA's and Formula's told me that cloth interior cars were something they hardly ever saw, so it stuck in his mind. He guessed there was probably less than 20 ever built. Well, his actual statement was "I would say only about 12, but just tell everybody 20 to be on the safe side"

In 5 years of searching, I've heard of 1 white, 1 green, 3 black, and now 2 red (including the one you're looking at).

where do you live? $7299 is not bad if its in good shape.
I got my '95 TA 6sp. loaded leather t-tops etc. w/70k miles for 6900. But it has a bad head gasket so that price just went up
And yes firebirds were available w/lt-1's. never seen a WS.6 though
            '95 Trans Am 6spd- broke
'77 dodge custom 150 2wd tire destroyer- 440ci w/edelbrock intake, thorley headers, 2000 stall, ported heads and surface rust
2005 Kawasaki z1000 - getting too cold for that though

OK this will clear it up.
There are three models of 'Firebirds'
              The Trams-Am
              The Firebird Formula and
              The Base Firebird
The base firebird only comes with a V-6 the Formula and Trans-Am only come with the V-8. Now you can get the WS-6 package on the Trans-Am and the Formula. (Most years)

              Hope this clears it up.

Its funny that I see a Black 97 WS6 Formula Firebird almost ever day. He has the hood, rims, and bumper emblem so from what I can tell its real. Also, There are Formula Firehawks, I'm not sure of the years produced but Im sure I have seen a red one at Gainsville, it was a LT-1, he was running 12's solid.
                  Well thats my 2 cents.

I drove mine in Chicago 4 years ago on ice, snow, salty roads, and all that mess, and it is NO fun. The f-body is DEFINITELY not a winter car.

Since my car is a southern car (aka no undercoating) I had to wash it with chassis blast every other day. Luckily I was making 6 g's a month so the carwash bill didn't hurt so much.
