  • poor fuel consumption

I know the tank is shaped so that it is smaller at the bottom than the top, but from about half tank till empty I only get just under thirty miles!
Is this the illusion created by the odd shaped tank or have I a problem?

Just get used to it its normal. Every car seems a little difference but the most I've ever gotten was just under 50 from a half tank to empty. Once I hit half tank my guage fluctuates a lot and I know its time to fill up soon.

      Ouch!,fuel is expensive over here...about $6 a gallon.
I would like to think I could get more than thirty, although my right foot must have lead in it though....I think it's the red mist syndrome, I can't help myself!

Does your car smell strongly of gas?

mine is the same way. it's weird, when I fill it up, it'll be at the F mark for a couple days, then after a couple hundred miles it drops to the half mark.

The next day I'll drive like 20 miles and it'll be on E. There was a topic on this a while back.

When full, my fuel guage actually registers as 5/4ths. Once it hits 1/2, it drops like a rock.

I do get 29 mpg on the highway, though

In my city walmart has the less expensive gas and I go by there everyday, so I plan to get gas when I pass the half tank mark.

There is no fuel smell, however I did have to repair one of the vapour lines under the hood with a push fit airpipe connector as a previous owner had done a rough fix on it. One of the other pipes has also been quick fixed at some point but as yet there is no sign of leakage either dampness or smell.
Perhaps it's as stated that the odd shape of the tank means half tank is actually a lot less than it indicates.

I get panicky whenever it gets past the 1/2 mark because I can then see the needle move. But on a full tank I can go 100 miles before the needle gets to the full mark and another 75 miles before it gets to the 3/4 mark. After almost running out of gas when the car had 1/4 tank indicated, I never test the limits and don't get any lower than 1/2 if I can help it. It is the strangest gas gauge I ever seen.

i only put 7 gallons everytime i put gas in the Z28 and its so funny. the needle goes past 3/4 tank. 30-40 Miles from 1/2 tank to empty is about right.
