  • options experts.... I need some info on the Comp T/A

regarding the Comp T/A in 97, were the Speedline wheels painted or polished? What center caps were used?

  • #2
painted the same bright silver metalic as the car. clear coated. center caps were slp "comp t/a"..clear with the letter in the middle. the speedlines were unique as they had no "lip" on the outer edge of the rim on the outside like the ws6 later model had. they were also the same wheel that was o.e. from slp on the 95 hawk.

Ken how much power did you comp have? I have always wondered about that

funny..hard to say. after i did all the mods, i sent my pcm to ed wright...he had a complete list of my mods and custom tuned it for me.... got it back..and she pulled hard and fast.. in fact, my dealership owner, who used to be in mafba..had a 97ws6ta we did the same mods to..only he used a hypertech programer... and i beat him..pulled him every time we played....i also passed all the emissions ....no prob.
then i spun #8 rod bearing.... the motor was rebuilt.. but we used all gm hp parts where possible ........and wrote it off under warranty.

Ed told me i was putting out between 360 and 370 at the flywheel...hence forth..the 365hp cals on the hood... (for show)

now..when i sold the car, the guy that bought it drag raced it in Norwalk... he turned a 13.summin.. and said it dynoed at 275rwhp......on a portable mustang dyno......now come on... you dont got 13 with 275rwhp... and plus, some folks that were in the stands said he was having issues with third... and i had lous short stick and a hurst and never had a prob.........

could it be compression was down..... i dont think so, the rebuild went right... the clutch was shot... glazed... i know it.... cause i did it

i dynoed it one time....... the figures panned out..

stock..the CompTA was 325hp... marked 315 for insurance purposes. long story.. but true.

                  anywho...........

it pulled...ask the guy with the 10th anniversary firehawk that tried to stay with me up skyline drive in 2002..........LOL

13xx sounds reasonable with 275 rwhp, it would definitely be in the very high 13's though but i guess you are the experts so i could be wrong. Im just saying from personal experiences.
I know my car makes less than 300 rwhp and will take my truck than runs low 14's for a ride
                    '95 Trans Am 6spd- broke
'77 dodge custom 150 2wd tire destroyer- 440ci w/edelbrock intake, thorley headers, 2000 stall, ported heads and surface rust
2005 Kawasaki z1000 - getting too cold for that though

Mustang and dynojet do not read equivilant numbers, the mustang giveing a lower figure. With the mods the Ken had, there is no way it is only a 275 rwhp car. There were way too many mods that were carefully thought out. Either the dyno numbers are wrong (which I know are low) and/or something else has gone south.

i dont get it either. thats why when i bought it, i made a promise to myself not to drag race it....that beats em to death, i dont care what anybody says. i drag raced for many years and it left my blood. this car was a show car. detailed to max. you could eat on the undercarriage. i spent time on my back under it detailing before the pontiac nationals.....

oh well.. of my buss now......i guess

Yeah Ken, the discrepancy in the dyno numbers vs. ET is all about the Mustang vs. DynoJet difference like Joe said.
Former Ride: 2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6 - 345 rwhp, 360 rwtq... stock internally.

                            Current Ride: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT Limited - spec.B #312 of 500

Mustang dyno is always going to be lower than a Dynojet. I know stock Comp TA's weren't that fast. Just enough power to break into the 13's stock. They were heavy pigs with no real mods to them save for the intake/hood and the cat back which was "detuned". So they weren't that much different than the 96-97 WS6 cars.

27x hp on a Mustang dyno would be under 320 on a dyno jet. Or about 350-360 flywheel HP.
