  • The Z went into storage today.

I put down a huge piece of visqueen in my friends airplane hanger under the right wing of his Cesna 172. I parked the car on it, removed the battery, put the car cover on it and then I picked up the edges of the visqueen and duct-taped them up around the car like a big wrapper. It will be fun to open it in the spring.

This is a short storage period, so I just filled the tank and took out the battery. It'll be parked from now to about mid April... so 4 months maybe. I didnt think sta-bil would be necessary for such a short stint. I'll just change the oil in the spring. I miss it already.

So, what's your winter beater? I can imagine how hard that is. Thankfully the winters aren't bad here.

Mine has been in storage for a while. I usually put it away early, and take it back out pretty early

I start it up once a week, let it warm up, usually go to the end of the driveway and back, rev it up, and let it sit for another week...

Mine is away for the first time - I hate it but in the long run it will be more of a "treat" to drive it only when it is nice.

My Camaro is a pleasure only car, so puting it in storage doesnt really change my life at all. I'll continue to drive my "regular" car every day. It is a 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme 4 door. I picked it up on Ebay with only 46,000 miles for $4,700 a while back to replace a lesser Buick 2 door I was driving. I needed 4 doors for the kids and was tired of driving a car without any luxury options. The new Olds has leather, digital climate control, steering wheel controls for the HVAC and radio, Concert sound with CD and Cassette, V6, 16" aluminum wheels, 4 wheel disc brakes with ABS, dual airbags, etc... It handles well, stops well and gets great gas mileage. Plus, I couldnt resist the price because it was well under book. An elderly couple (original owners) had traded it in at a Lexus dealer on a new Lexus. The dealer doesnt sell used cars, but this one was sooo nice they put it up on Ebay. It looks like a new car. Even the engine compartment is spotless.

It is most definitely a treat. You'll feel like a little kid at christmas time when you go get it in the spring.

For maximum effect, dont even lay eyes on it for the entire winter. If you still see it every day, the springtime treat is not as satisfying.

Ahhh, so the Z is just for keeping ricers' egos in check...I gotcha . Sounds like a nice ride. I just have too much fun to put it away. I drive the Jeep for a week then have to drive the Z again...miss it too much lol. I suppose when I settle down some more I'll change, but I'm only 22 once...and only for 3 1/2 more months lol.

I would of done it sooner also, but my weekends have been booked. I'm lucky I got a day this weekend without any rain to do it.

Now Tami and I can put both our cars in our heated garage. Neither of us will need to deal with frozen windows this winter. My garage stall at work is also heated, so I'm all set!!

Come and get me, old man Winter... I dare you!

What's a "winter beater"? Putting a car away because it cold? What a foreign concept.
Maybe i should think about doing this......

                          nope!
                          '95 Trans Am 6spd- broke
'77 dodge custom 150 2wd tire destroyer- 440ci w/edelbrock intake, thorley headers, 2000 stall, ported heads and surface rust
2005 Kawasaki z1000 - getting too cold for that though

I've had her put away for a month or so. (I go to school so I had to put it away when I was back home)

Man your strong - I don't think I can do it - it is under a cover in my garage and I have already taken the cover off twice
haha, gotta agree with that. I go home for winter break and can't wait to lift the cover off, start her up, and just sit. Sit with a little grin on my face.
