  • New to forum....have a question about exhaust

Hello my name is Paul i just joined the forum and it looks like a great place.
I have a couple if questions about my car and need some help if u guys could help that would be great Thanks.

    I have a 2001 z-28
Mods: Lid, K&N filter, SLP MAF, MSD 8.5mm plug wires, NGK 1 step colder, SLP long tubes with cats and y-pipe, flowmaster catback, NOS dry nitrous kit (before MAF).
Free Mods: Intake plastic cut out, Hand ported & polished throttle body, shaved throttle body to get WOT

First question.... I have a 42 pill in the nitrous setup does anybody know what shot that is??

Second question.... Recently i have been throwing engine codes and i know its exhaust cause the light keeps coming on and off. I have been thinking of switching to a true dual setup from texas-speed.com but will the computer control the air/fuel ratio corectly if when i buy the computer controller and delete the rear o2's even with my nitrous???

Welcome to the board Paul. Can't say I can really help you, but just thought I'd say hey. I'm sure one of the LS1 guys will be able to give you the answer you need. Take care.

        Welcome to the board.
I'm not even going to try to touch the nitrous questions because I don't have a clue about it.

1.Have your car scanned. Unless you have you can't be sure its a light for exhaust it could be something else. Autozone will do it free.

2.Your rear 02 sensors do nothing more than tell the computer the cats are alright. You can just unplug them and it'll give you a light but nothing more. The 02s do not affect your a\f ratio.

Is it the NOS 5177 kit? Does that kit have two jets, one on each side of the airbox, meaning you are running 2 X 44's or are you running only a single 44? Dual 44's are approx 150HP. A single 44 would be around 80HP.

Second question.... Recently i have been throwing engine codes and i know its exhaust cause the light keeps coming on and off.
The fact that the light "keeps coming on and off" doesn't pin it down to an exhaust problem. You need to have it scanned to pull the codes and get the actual cause.

What "computer controller" are you buying? Are you planning on running without cats? Do you mean you are having the after-cat O2 sensors "prgrammed out" of your stock PCM programming? If that's the case, as noted in the response above, the after-cat O2 sensors have nothing to do with controlling the A/F ratio. They are just there to check the performance of the cats.

thank you guys so much for the help and for the warm welcomes.

ok to answer a few questions u have, No its not the 5177 kit from nos. i had a 240sx and bought the kit for it and transfered the kit to my car and it is only a single 42 pill nothing else so i guess thats about a 75 shot thanks for the help on that one. Also im thinking about the Diablo Predator programer because i heard nothing but good things about it and yes i plan on running with out cats and yes i plan on having the rear o2's programmed out. also if i put a a/f ratio gauge on the car (i know i have to have 2) but will i use the adaptor in the front o2's??

An adapter for what? To attach the lead for the A/F ratio gauge? No adapter needed, you just splice (carefully) into the O2 sensor signal wire in the wiring harness, or at the PCM. What kind of A/F ratio gauge are you looking at? The ones like the AutoMeter that use your stock narrow-band sensors are pretty much useless.... they are not calibrated with any numbers. Just vague descriptions like "Lean" and "Rich". In closed loop, they are going to provide a distracting light show, at WOT the stock O2 sensors are simply not accurate. You would need dual wide-bands.... $800. Those would require a second bung on each collector for the wide-band sensor.

yes i am looking at the autometer gauges cause they r the only ones with carbon fiber gauges. and also my friend who is a master mechanic at a chevrolet dealer here in fl says that i should never under any circumstances splice into an o2 wire there specially made wires to acomadate for this with a lead for the autometer gauges.
