  • Injuneer, Please Help!!

    Injuneer someone thought I should run this by you and you may have some ideals.
    I have been trying to get my race car running for almost 2 weeks now with no luck. I have a race only 96 TA with a 383 LT1. I pulled the motor to fix an oil leak at the rear main seal and can't get it to run again. It starts hard and when it does start it floods so bad the gas is running out the mufflers. I pulled the plugs and they are all black but not wet.

    Hear is a list of things I have tried

    Changed all sensors, tps,coolant,map,massair,opti,engine control modual(at the coil).and the coil is showing good spark.

    changed compleat engine wiring harness, and pcm,I have a spare with the same programing. (Ed Wright)

    checked injectors by removing fule rail and turning it over and with injectors hooked up cranked it over with the key. all fired with no leaking. fuel pressure at 60 psi.

    Nothing worked!!!!!

    so today I tried a stock computer from Time Lord and it runs and it runs good!! I am sure nothing I dare race but it runs and no black smoke. So I flashed it with the programing for my set up and it ran the same as the other 2 computers. I put it back to stock and it runs again. I called Ed and he sent me a new file but when I installed it the motor flooded.

    I just don't know what to do! 2 weeks ago the car ran 10.42 with a 1.32 60ft and all I did was pull the engine to fix an oil leak.

    I put a scanner on it and with it running and tring to flood out the tps was at 30% I had to go that fare to keep it running and the map was reading 69 to 74% at 3500 rpms.

      Hmmm.... makes me wonder what has been disabled in Ed's program vs the stock one, whether or not it's fouling in closed or open loop.

      I do like the wheels up in the Black T/A. If only mine would do that.

        Funny thing is his car worked fine[as picture shows] for 2 years with never a problem,it works with my PCM but not his which always worked and ran dead on?????

          If Ed can't solve it, I doubt that I can. What you are saying basically is that Ed's tune no longer works. Ed's tune in Time Lord's computer runs just as bad as it does in your two computers. But Time Lord's tune runs your engine a lot better. You would have to know the details between the two different tunes. My initial guess would have been the MAP sensor, but you replaced that. How about the coolant sensor.... you said you replaced it, but did you replace the one in the water pump, and did you verify that it is working?

          You may have damaged some component that Ed's tune is looking at, and Time Lord's tune isn't giving much weight to. Offsets in fuel rate for coolant temp and MAP at low loads would seem to be a possible problem. What does MAP look like when it idles on Time Lords tune? How big is the cam?

          Have you checked the engine grounds? Since you are programmed for 60psi fuel pressure, it would seem odd that Time Lord's program would even work, unless he is running the same injector/pressure combo you are.

            Time Lord's computer is compleatly stock. Mine is set for 30lb injectors. I did clean all the grounds. I think I will try to run the stock pcm at the track and see what happens and maybe the problem will go away after a make a few runs. I will need Ed to fix the problem with shifting first because with stock pcm and the 4000 converter it will not shift out of first gear.
            I will scan the stock pcm and see what the map is reading and compare to mine. I all ready compared it to some runs when it was running good and didn't see much change.

              My tune is 100% stock from 1994,that is my spare PCM that I keep just in case.

              The PCM I race with is tuned by Ed but not the one Rick has.

                If you can get your hands on some data logging equipment like TTS DataMaster, I'm sure the guys at www.pcmforless.com could help ya out with a solid tune.

                If your backed up against a brick wall...might be an idea for ya.

                  Sounds simple, but are you absolutely sure that air isn't getting into the exhaust proir to the 02 sensors? With the big injector program, if the engine is getting a false lean, it's going to add fuel..... enough to wash the cylinder walls. The small injector program with lower pressures may not be able to add enough fuel to compensate, therefore running semi correct. You're not running at WOT to test duty cycle, what is the duty cycle of the injectors on each program while at idle? I assume you checked the regulator for a ruptured diaphram?

                    In case he isn't around for the next few days,he is running hooker long tubes with race mufflers,would he still have 02s or might they have been deleted??

                    He thought my PCM would throw codes because of missing sensors!!

                      Hey!! Next time I post about a problem just tell me to check the fuses. The 20 amp for the sensors was blown!

                      I never gave it a thought because the car would run and with the stock pcm it would run well. Well I guess I wasn't the only one that didn't think of it, I have called people all over the country and a lot of local experts and not one said to check the fuse.

                      I would like to thank Time Lord for the use of your pcm and wiring harness. Your pcm is put back to stock and I will return it to you this week end next time I see you.
