either of the motors broken? My drivers side is broken and if I pull it up before the pass. side comes up, the pass side won't come up. They have no trouble going down......eventually. Might be a sensor or something. The more knowledgeable people will answer soon. Don't worry

The motors are controlled by the headlight switch and the contol module. The module is a 5 inch square box with two harness connections, one for the left and one for the right. The box is located up on the firewall near the brake booster. These connections could be intermittant and/or the mechanisms themselves may need lubrication. The headlight motor harness connection can always be pulled and a direct positive and negative can be applied to test the motor. The control box also reverses polarity to raise and lower the lights, so you can test the motors up and down operation by merely reversing polarity.

I'm not really sure how the light motors are set up on an 87, and i could be completely wrong, but i know that on 4th gen models the motor has a plastic ring gear inside the housing that can get worn with continual use. If the gear is worn in a certain place, then that could be the prob. ebay sells them for like 15 bucks, and all you have to do is pop the housing apart and slide the new gear in. Then get some really good glue and put the housing back together.

Third gens dont have this problem, all metal internals.

My 89 formula has exactly the opposite problem, My lights intermitently wont go down. I have tracked the problem to the dash switch, as it wears it can develop a space between the contacts. You then have to hold the switch down tightly to get the lights to go down, if you let got the lights only go half way down or not at all. I would imagine this could happen in the revearse direction. I havent changed mine because Im lazy, had the switch for over a year now
