You went from a ZR-1 to a WS6??????????????????? You never told me that!!!!!!!!
You lost your mind!!!!!!
not exactly...... I gained a son and a need for another seat.
Actually at the time, I had the '95 ZR-1, a '79 L82-4 speed (fairly well modded) and an '80 base automatic. All the 2 seaters went away and were replaced by the WS6 and a Crew Cab Dually. The only thing I kept though all that was the GN. Now that it is just he and I, after the house is done, some things are going to change.
The payments may being hurting you now, but think of what it'll be in 6 months when the TA is paid off. That extra money will be nice to have in your pocket. Then you can start working on your apartment and other things.
Right now my car is paid off and my insureance is cheap. Being how I'm in the military I live in the Barracks (comparable to college dorms) and all the money left over from bills is my party/saving money. You'll really feel better with that extra money in your account, not to mention the availability to get more mods for the TA.
The comparison... The TA is moded slightly and has room for more. The vette, bone stock, basically you'll be starting over. You will still be saving about $500 or so a month but you won't have to start over with the mods. Plus in an apartment complex, you would go CRAZY if your vette got a ding in the door from some inconsiderate @*$hole that wasn't watching him/herself. TA's are cheaper and easier to fix, I think.
IMHO, keep the TA. It will pay off in the long run. Plus in a few years you might be able to find a vette for cheaper and then you'll have the best of both worlds.
Good luck to yah man!!

Plans for an '02 WS6 are in the mix for 2008 (after I'm out of the army)
Jay, I've got a suggestion that I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet. This is what I'd do: Keep the TA for now, pay it down as much as humanly possible, and by the time you're ready to take it out of storage in the spring it will be all but paid off, if not paid off. Spring is always a better time to sell f-bodies. Prices are at a premium because people want a cruise car for the summer. Sell the car in the spring and any money you make will be pure profit. You say you owe about $7,600 on it. In another 6 months that will be $7,600 in cash in your pocket when you sell or trade in. The car won't depreciate that much in 6 months, and the higher spring prices will help offset what depreciation there is. Then you'll have 16-20k cash to put down on the car of your choosing, whether it be a Z06, another f-body or, God forbid, a Volvo (I'd stick with the Z06!). This should dramatically lower your payments and give you more breathing room financially when it comes time to move out of mama's house. Just my .02.
Actually, if it really were me in your situation, I'd probably buy a new C6, because I can get some serious kick ass GM supplier discounts right now... on top of all the offers they're making avilable to the public. I did the math and it'd be possible to get a new GTO for under $20k.

I'm with Dave on this one Jay. You are not getting what your car is worth on trade - especially this time of year. You cannot drive the Z06 now anyway - why not wait until Spring? Put that puppy up for sale in the Spring - sell it privately - it makes so much more sense financially. However, like you said Jay, if we looked at everything financially we would not be driving these cars in the first place. I think now is a good time in your life to have a 2 seater with no dependents. I wanted a vette but have 2 kids so it is a T/A.....for now. Just my $.02.
actually i belive jay when he says the vette insurance is cheaper. this was too in my case. my uncle was gonna sell me his vette, but i was short a few grand so i picked up a firechicken and the inssurance is more then a vette. this is because of the price of each car. Same car pretty much just the sticker price. Teenagers insurance policyies are R*aping them up the @$$. The reason why the vettes insurance is because the people who can afford them are 35+ year old males, who are "reponsible drivers" while the TA is cheaper and is much more realistic for kids to have so the insurance premium is more. however i do beleive that the TA insurance is cheaper vs vette when your 35 or older , not sure about that tho, i just know it sucks to drive when your young, believe me
Ive heard the insurance is also cheaper on vets compared to our f-bodies theres a local shop that mainly does work on Vets they where telling how insurance is cheaper on a vet because GENERALLY the people who drive them are older and dont end up getting into accidents as much as young 18 year old punks like myself
anyone that mentioned that he should wait till spring cus the value on the ws6 wll be higher, dont forget that it will mean the value of the z06 will also be higher for the same reasons
I like the sound of Tracys idea. Although I'm not looking to get an FRC, I am planning on getting an 01-02 C5 coupe sometime in the summer of next year. I'd go for the Z06 but theres nothing like driving in California wheather with the roof off. In addition, I dont want that big a car payment and it would only be a matter of time before the LS1 will be LS1 no more! I think Jay should wait just like everyone has been advising him to do, and maybe aim for something that will allow him a little more flexibility with his current budget and future plans.
I hate to say this but you might as well wait. You said yourself that you will be parking the car for the next 6 months. Why bother buying a vette when you can have your car paid off before the next time you can drive it?
Besides, I have seen several Z06's with less miles sell cheaper down here. Wait untill spring and then decide.
