  • NFB: Merry Christmas from Iraq

My friend Brian sent me this email for Christmas. I wanted to share it with the group here. I like to take every opportunity I can to thank the men and women doing the real hard work. It is important that we people in safety take the time to listen to the messages of the people that are on the ground in harms way. This is the only truth.

Again from a country other than the US I wish each of you a Merry Christmas.
This year is coming to close on a very difficult year for me. I've again
been proud to be allowed to serve our country in a time in which so many
need assistance. For the first time I'm directly involved not only in the
combat arms/support role of the past but in a civil interaction role that
allows me to understand a part of the battle that I've never had
understanding of before. We are no longer at war with Iraq. No longer at
war with the Iraqi people. But we are at war with those that want nothing
to do but to kill and harm innocent peaceful people. I'm not in love with
this country or it's people, but I do recognize the enemy and continue to
    seek out his destruction.

As me and my Marines pause but a moment this Christmas season and release
our thoughts to home again, we want you all to know we hear you. We know
you are at home patiently a our return and proudly supporting us no
    matter what the cause.

Merry Christmas! Remember those who can't come home and those that are
already home again whether with their God or with families but home finally.

For me it looks like March will be a time to anticipate and possibly
celebrate. Being that my unit is from D.C. I'm not exactly sure when I'll
be released to actually spend some good time at home, but will update in the
coming months. I won't get to caught up in it because our mission continues
and so does our enemies. If we relax at any time it could be deadly. I'll
rather continue to stand in harms way and allow the mission to be
successful. My Marines expect me not to fail them and that is my fuel
    towards my work.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
    Brian

I always enjoy hearing feedback like that from the solidiers over there doing all the unbelievably hard work that they are doing. If only everyone had a clear understanding of our nation's amicable efforts like your friend. I hope your friend makes it home safe and soon Trace!
