Ya know, I read in Motortrend that those things are actually pretty quick. I can't remember the numbers....something like 5.5sec 0-60. Not too shabby for a four banger. Then there is the Mitsubishi Lancer that does the sprint in like 4.8 sec. and costs like 21k? I think. I will have to look in the mag again, but I will definitely have to think twice if one of those revs at my V6 and alot of V8 owners will have to watch out for those Lancers. It is scary what kind of HP those I4's can put out if properly tuned and force-fed. Still, I would rather have an LS-1 F-body, but ya gotta give credit where credit is due.

The funny thing about the lancers is that mits. won't cover the warranties if they have any proof that you raced it at all. So i guess the 13 sec car is just to merge into traffic

The video makes fun of SRT-4s Ken, it's not a real "tribute". hehehehe...

They call these cars "skittles" on ls1tech.

Yes, they are capable of high 13s stock. V6 f-bodies shouldn't mess with them, and bone stock LT1s may want to proceed with caution. They are even very upgradeable because of forced induction... but they're still a Neon. Still a skittle with wheels. And they still say "Hi."

Actually MT has then starting at $28,224...so we were both wrong. And I was wrong about the 0-60. It is 4.4 sec. I guess the AWD helps. The 1/4 is 13.2@99.8mph. So, it would be a pretty tough car for the money. I would still prefer an F-body....but holy crap...this thing is a 4 banger.

I bet it cannot do that very many times before it breaks. We could run a LS1 f-body down the strip making those times all day long and never break a thing.

Those little cars are so flimsy. Wait a few years and see how these "fast" imports hold up under hard driving.

Our cars are built to take the abuse, and to top it off look 500% better too...

Sooner or later as these cars get modded, people are going to realize that high power front drivers are hell to live with. When the driven wheels are also responsible for steering the car, big problems occur. I had mucho experience with this 20 years ago. Wet weather traction is close to zero. I could be traveling at 50 mph and squeeze the throttle and the front tires would spin helplessly. From a stoplight, any wet pavement and all I could do was watch underpowered cars merely pull away while I spun for what seemed like minutes. Torque steer isn't any fun either. Yes, in the dry I could whip up on many high performance cars. the problem is that it is unsafe. Period. Perhaps the turbo wasn't the best method for a front driver. These cars will end up biting the owners, not a question of "if" ..... it will be more like "when". And "when" will be an eye opening suprise.

You gotta remember that forced induction plays a HUGE role here.

People like to talk about its 2 liter engine and how it puts out like 135 HP/L... but it's because of the turbo.

Now, I don't say that to take away from its accomplishments, but simply to put its accomplishments into perspective. For every 14.7 (at sea level) psi blown at a motor, the displacement effectively doubles because the A/F mix in the cylinders doubles. I believe these turbos are at 16 psi stock.

So, we have the A/F mix of about a 4.3L DOHC V8 making 271 HP. Now... is anyone going to say that is amazing? Not to mention we have the AWD drivetrain loss to overcome which means the amount of power that reaches the wheels is even less - evidenced by it's low trap speed.

I like the car, but it isn't a miracle of engineering or anything. Just a 2.0L I-4 that consumes the A/F of a 4.3L V8 and puts out Mustang GT-like horsepower numbers.

Did I mention it gets worse gas mileage than the LS1?

Well, I wouldn't call it "flimsy"... the weak link is the clutch. No question that to achieve the low 13 second quarter mile time, you need to dump the clutch from high revs... and that will make your clutch into pea soup pretty quickly...

I have two buddies with Evos. Like I said in my post above, I really like the car, but I'm not overly impressed by it.

                              However...

.....one of those guys got his car up to 440 awhp on a Mustang Dyno with C16 race gas and 23 psi

Even better... that was on stock internals.

He is replacing with forged internals, and increasing the boost further... probably coming close to 550 or so awhp. On a car this light, and with AWD traction, this should be a 9 second car.
