There's a test of the Borla on ws6.com, showing the differences in HP for the various plate sizes and full open. I think the 1.75" plate showed the highest HP. But it was only one or two HP difference between the different plates, nothing you would notice.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone complain about the "adjustable" Borla cat-back system. I know I bought the non-adjustable Borla "rear section" back in 1994, and it wasn't very good. But that was because I was still using the inferior stock intermediate pipe, and the "rear section" muffler only had a 2.5" inlet.

I think the Borla is great. It works very well and flows very well. It is not the restriction as far as I know.

It is a great system. I have been using one for about 6 years. The reason the car doesn't feel as quick with the baffle open is due to the loss of backpressure. I have AS&M headers on mine and the sound actually got quieter with the headers. I do recommend that you keep the cat when you do the headers as they sound much better with it.

I have borla and I love it. You have to remember that todays cat backs aren't exactly big power adders anymore because the factory mufflers and pipes are great from the cats back. So if you are choosing which cat back to get choose on sound not performance. You will notice performance when/if you put headers on, that is when your car will sound a hellof alot better and wake up as well power wise.

I've heard some complaints about the sound quality with some of the bigger power adders like a cam.

I love mine though....love the sound. The shorty headers actually enhanced it! The wife says it actually sounds a lot better when you're driving behind the car than when you're inside it. I have the quick time valve too. The guy that makes them is in North Jersey. I definitely recommend it! Before it took me about 10 minutes to get the tools out and change a plate. Now it's available anytime I want!

Back when Lingenfelter was building these cars, he felt it was a good exhaust. In an aftermarket F-Body showdown at the track, the Vortech guys were complaining that Lingenfelter was running a straight exhaust with his 383. He replied "Well maybe I'll go put a blower on my car" - that shut them up...That was all the endorsement that I needed. I found out that the rear pipe was bent wrong and made it hard to install. Also their customer service was impossible to contact. Still, I like the exhaust and the electric valve in the back is a good mod. I never did experiments to see if it helps to have it opened up, but I would think that you would benefit from no restriction at the track.
