  • is this normal?

    Guys,

I just got my first 4th gen about two weeks ago. It's a 2001 Trans Am with a 6 speed tranny in it. The car is handles great but when I get on it in first gear (dump the clutch @ 1500) the shifter starts shaking pretty bad. Is this normal? All my other cars have been auto, so I haven't seen this before. Thanks for your time, Mike

Mine does it, but I believe its normal. If not, I've got another problem to fix lol

Depending on how bad it is it could be as simple as wheel-hop, or a broken transmission mount. Tranny mounts are cheap an install in 10 minutes.

I broke the rubber tranny support on mine when I 1st got mine spinning. I suppose it was dry rotted. every time it hit a gear, it flet like the whole tranny was jumping through the interior. Lucky it was just a $20 peice and it fixed it. I thought something serious was wrong.

if the wheels are hopping, it'll shake. If the wheels stay planted, it won't shake.

Depends on the road surface mostly.

              Guys,

I'll check the tranny mount. If it turns out to be wheel hop, what needs to be changed?
