Does anyone know where to get an EFE-EGR Thermal Vacuum Valve-Switch for a 79 Pontiac 400? Part is specific to 1978 and 1979 Pontiac 400 motors and the places I have tried are attempting to pass off other Thermal Valves as the same. The OEM part number is 3039491 in Dark Blue with four ports all on one side. I am told the color identifies the temperature setting of the valve. Being I am in CA and the car was not permitted to be sold in CA originally, I am not finding the identical part in salvage yards here. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey there,
It is nice to have fellow 2nd gen T/A owners post. Anyhow, I would try http://www.classicindustries.com/ for the part that you need if NAPA doesn't have a replacement unit. However, I think they might; and they should be able to order one...if not, GM direct.
I don't think you are going to find the part you need on a salvage vehicle. Most of these cars have been molested so much over the years, and the vacuum and thermal valves are the first to go. There are a few cars that are intact, but most of these are sitting under car covers like mine.
I take it that you have the W72 motor? Have you looked at the specs on the 6X heads, cam, etc. It is definitely a sleeper if you tweak it just right.'77 K5 rock-crawler project
