Michelin has been working on this for a long time, since the early 90's. they got the idea from the natulas snail shell that is chambered to withstand pressure a deep ocean depths and maintain strength.

you can see what an important invention this woud be. ie: rollover accidents. roll overs account for only 2% of all accidents.... but the fatality rate is 38% for rollovers.... and blows outs are the main culprit in rollovers.

there will be a big battle going on if michelin can pefect the design and patent it.... the other tire manuf.'s are scrambling right now to have thier own designs ready, other wise...michelin will control the market for a while, thats for sure. the ride quality still has a lot of work to be done on it... and controlling the load for different applications makes it tough.. unlike today, you can buy a tire, say a P245/50r16... and adjust the tire pressure to fit what ever vehicle the tire is being placed on for maximum performance and handling... you cant do that with this new non pnuematic tire.
