  • NFB:How cold is cold?

Well.....try -31F. Then factor in the wind chill and it feels like -54.4F with a stiff 25mph wind. Geez.....the ignition would barely turn in the Camaro this morning. It started, but that is only thanks to the block heater, but the transmission was like trying to stir almost-set concrete. That and in the 30 seconds it took me to go out, unplug the car, and start it...my wet hair from the shower was frozen solid. Should have worn my hat. But really.....why do people live here?? This is insane. Texas is sounding soooo good right now. Anyone else dealing with frigid temps?

WOW....that is cold . It's been pretty weird here in Chicago lately. About 3 weeks ago we had this nasty cold streak with sub zero temps as well. From there, the following few weeks were more snowy than anything. Yesterday, however, it got to about 60 degrees. All the snow melted, and it was beautiful outside (other than the gray skies). Last night i did something that i love doing but haven't been able to do it for the past months...i took the T/A out with the windows down and the music blasting . After about 20 minutes of cruising though, it started to rain which is pretty much what it has been doing til now, that is except for the temps goin down about 15-20 degrees as well .

I'm planning on coming back down, unfortunately it won't be till sometime this summer. I thought it was funny this morning though...remembering back when I was a kid in school in Texas and it would freeze or (on the rare occasion) snow, the schools would be closed, businesses would close, there would be wrecks on the roads, etc. etc. This morning, I finally heard them say on the radio that there would be school cancellations today because they don't want kids walking to school in this. Too much of a risk of frostbite. So this is what it takes to make schools close in Canada...poor kids. Too bad I still had to come to work.

A guy here where I work is from Rochester. I heard that it is overcast there something like 300 days of the year. Lake effects weather.

                  I second that.

Chicago is the only place that i have ever been to where you can experience the different weather of all four seasons within a couple hours

We got to 72 here in Delaware. Very rare for this time of year. But supposed to be in the 30's by tomorrow I hear.

Another onee from Wisconsin..... although balmy compared to Saskatchewan

Whenever I start the Camaro in near zero weather I get a VERY loud whine at startup and if I rev the engine or drive. It gets louder as the engine speed increases but seems to go away at higher speeds. Then its totally gone when the car is warm. Also when i turn the steering wheel for the first couple times its very stiff and also when I first start going in drive its almost like it is hard to get moving. I wonder if trans fluid can freeze??? Does anyone else have wierd noises like this?

Temp right now is -3 and wind chill is -21. I do have a garage but somehow I dont think it is a lot warmer in there.....

Mine whines like crazy like that too. Takes a good 30 seconds for it to warm up enough to stop. I think it must be the tranny too, cause even once the engine is warm, the shifter is still stiff as can be. Ever had your brake pads freeze to the calipers? That makes for a loud POP when you start driving.
