    Good analogy

This kid really needs an education though... he is SO ignorant, that yes, I do think it's worth the gas. Especially if I can get him to put some money on it. I just told him we'll be taking a trip to Gingerman this spring.

The problem is: You are assuming that he is capable of learning. This needs to be done in front of all his peers..... that is the only thing that will shut him up, which sounds like even that won't happen. Do you know what will really get under his skin? Laughing at him without an explaination. That drives ricers over the edge to the point of getting really mad and doing stupid stuff. Try it next time they pull up next to you at a light. They throw a rev, you just laugh. It drives them insane..... A few years ago, a guy that was working at my shop was the president of a ricer club. After I got to know him, I started digging around inside his brain and found out that these kids are craving, no.... demanding respect. Not earning it mind you, demanding it right off the bat. You show disrespect by laughing and they go insane. This whole respect thing is what gets them into such trouble at times. Many even take it to a physical level. They can't accept the idea of agreeing to disagree. If you disagree or worse, you become a disrespectful enemy. It is a concept that hopefully these kids will grow out of before it destroys lives.

I've had an experience with a guy in a Civic with nitrous. This was back in 2000 or so and this guy had the Civic with the VTEC and the wing from the factory, some kind of special Civic they came out with that year. Anyway, he says he can smoke me cause he put a 100 shot on this car. At the same time, I had another guy with a DSM that was slightly built also running his mouth. Well, I just happened to catch both of them at the same time running on a 6 lane wide road with no traffic. I outran both of them on MOTOR, and outran them BAD. I had the DSM by like 4 or 5 cars before I even hit the speed limit, and I had the Civic by more like 10. I let off at 55, and they both did the "ricer flyby". I never got any lip from them again. The guy with the DSM has a brother with a slower DSM that later started mouthing off, but he shut up once he was told how I had beat his brothers faster car

A civic is one thing, an awd turbo dsm is another. I could make a 1st gen awd eclipse run 12's for next to nothing.

I've heard that arguement before. Having had my fair share of DSMs.... read: blown head gaskets, cracked heads, poor dealer service, etc... I vowed to never, ever have one again. I do have one leftover part as a reminder. A piston with a hole in the top and side, big enough to put your thumb through. I see guys tearing them up in order to acheive the numbers. Some, for whatever reason live a moderate life, but most do not. In order to get the numbers, you really have to abuse the machinery and the hard truth is, they break and break fairly easily. Of course someone can always point out the exception, but it's the exceptions that make the rule. After Mitsubishi voided my warranty because of : "Oversized tires", I knew better than to ever put a dime of my hard earned cash into their pocket. That and the service dept. were a bunch of collective idiots...... That's one reason why you don't see classic DSMs..... they seem to vanish into oblivion. The sheetmetal rusts through prematurely, parts get used up and after enough headaches, the cars end up scrapped. There was a real big stink years back about Mitsubishi voiding people's warranty for no real reason. At one time there was a class action law suit, I never bothered to follow the outcome. They ripped off way too many people.

The guy with the fastest DSM in Mobile has said repeatedly the following statement, and it has become somewhat of a local joke:

If you get beat by a DSM, race him two more times. One of those two times, he will break something.

He won't get rid of his car, but he absolutely hates it. It is very inconsistent, and he is constantly working on it. I've run him heads up one time, and didn't have my nitrous on, and nearly beat him. The thing is, my best is 7.90's in the 1/8 on the spray, and his best is 7.50's. That pass I went 8.30 because of no nitrous, and he went 8.20. I've seen him run anywhere from 7.5x to 9.0x. The car just won't run the same number twice.

Actually, that was my own stupidity that time. A little too much rpm, combined with a little too much boost and not quite enough fuel.

It was pulling like a bear at high speed, soundly thrashing... dare I say it, a Camaro and just went a little too high on the revs. The resulting lean condition melted a nice hole in the crown. That time, it was 100% my fault. It's the previous disintegrations that ticked me off.

Ah, i was gonna say, that would be the worst thing i ever heard if you did nothing to provoke that...but i can obviously now see why that would have happened. Still though, all the other things you mentioned are PITA stuff to repair, and then on top of that poor customer service also . I can understand things going wrong mechanically (to an extent of course), but the least i would ask for at that point is good customer service. You can have an ()() load of problems, and you'd be surprised what kind of effect a courteous, well-mannered customer rep. could have on a person. I worked in customer service and dealt with it, and did everything i could to try and please the customer....that's the whole point! On top of that also, voiding warranties for no reason what so ever.....I'm glad i never bought a Mitsubishi

He agreed to run me at Gingerman Raceway in the spring.

Even if by the magic of his buttcrack, he can manage to stay even with me in the corners, I am going to DESTROY him on the straight aways.

We're probably even going to put some money on it.

Hey! FREE MONEY!!!! lol....... hahahahahahaha... what a sucker.

LOL, Joe, you saw my pics in my other thread about what happened to my quest? A buddy in my club with that car has a dsm. When he saw my pictures, he said he sees it all the time in DSM's but that was the first time on a 2.6L lol, that's kinda funny.

I'm sure it's not all the cars fault (holes in pistons, etc..), the 4g63 is an awesome motor. The problem was in the drivetrain. Tranny's, axles, etc...

You see that thing on discovery? They took a civic and an awd eclipse, souped them up and ran them? 3rd run, the eclipse broke a front axle... Still beat the civic though

Just as a little note, you can make a GN run 11s for under $2k. Check this out...

                            http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/recipes/foxrecipe.html

Granted the prices have changed some since this recipe was made, but still...11s for cheap. As Joe stated, longevity is what makes the car good.

Jay, at least you're goin' to a Raceway. Since you are...TAPE IT!! lol Gotta see that. See if you can get his reaction too lol. I remember "educating" some ricer in a new Celica what a Bowtie V8 can do...his jaw hit the floor
