  • nfb Finally some pretty good news

I open for Chubby Checker this Saturday. Cypress Gardens, the local themepark has recently re-opened.... larger and better than ever. They have a music concert series and am starting back this weekend! It's going to be nice having that gig back. It's a 5000 seat outdoor theatre, beautiful skies and weather, playing on stage, etc. Hobnob with the celebs, too.

    I'm back!

Cypress Gardens is a cool place. Do they still do water ski shows? That was one of my favorite attractions. I also remember there being these really strange plants there that would retract themselves upon human touch. Did you ever see those there?

oops......I guess I should have been a little more specific. I have a couple of degrees in music and will be playing a state of the art $74K computerized digital keyboard setup. That is then put through the park's sound system with a couple thousand watts. I used to play out there before the park closed a couple of years ago. It was purchased and re-done only to get wiped out by the hurricanes. The refurbish has just finished and the park is open once again. My full time job is working for a company called Fletcher Music, a high end keyboard retailer. I manage one of the stores and travel the company as their premier concert artist. This company is the world's largest dealer for this equipment, 30 locations I believe from Florida to Arizona (Vegas too) and I've been with them for 16 years. I had toyed with the idea of just woking for the manufacturer. Those guys have been putting the sell on me to work for them, but I can't travel on the scale that they would want. I would have to be able to go to Europe, Australia, Africa, South America, not to mention all over the country. I'm a single parent with a 7 year old son and am not about to have him take a back seat to that. So...... I stay here in Florida and only do day trips. My son is the priority and I have to be back to pick him up at the end of the day. That's the price for my lack of fame. Doing Cypress Gardens' shows allows me do some great performances and open for some really big names yet still am home for Dinner. you can check out Cypress Gardens' event schedule here: http://cypressgardens.com/concerts.asp It's not as complete as a few years ago, but that will change as the park gets back into stride.

Kevin, the Ski shows are great but even better are the Southern Belles. Those beauties in the old fashioned dresses are simply stunning. Walking though the park with a couple of them on your arm is a definate perk. I'll have to take some photos and post them. I couldn't tell you much about the plants, that's not what I was looking at.

Congrats Joe coming from a fellow musician!!!!
Chubby Checker too, that's quite the gig you got there!

I remember the first time i played at the metro in Chicago, a small place up on the north side...wrigleyville. I didn't open for anyone big, it was a whole bunch of local bands (some big on the local scene), and i played third to last. That was awesome, especially thinking of how all my favorite bands and alot of pretty big ones played on that exact same stage. I'll never forget being nervous about having to sing, so i opened up by playing eruption (the guitar solos always calm me down ), and from there it was just a blast. Best feeling you'll ever get, in my opinion, is when you look up and see everyone either going crazy, singing along, or just really getting in to what you are doing.

Best of luck man, i wish i could see ya perform.
74k keyboard!!!! That must be one piece of equipment!!!!!
And i thought my moms piano that i play on was expensive!!!!

                Good Luck!!!!

Joe, I never had you pegged as a musician.

                  Congrats!
