  • Pulled the transmission this afternoon

I pulled the trans out this afternoon to replace the clutch. The flywheel looks good, so I'll just scuff it with emory cloth. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the reinstallation. Also, I'm replacing the stock clutch/pressure plate with the SLP units. Does anyone have opinions of the SLP clutch/pressure plate? I know it's a little late to ask, but I just couldn't resist the price....kit from Tbyrne was 356 shipped. I also got the SLP CAI and plan on installing it tomorrow if all goes well with the clutch. Does anyone have any tips for installing the cai?

    Thanks....Jody

My advise is don't touch the flywheel.

I wish I had gotten the SLP clutch and pressure plate. I've had nothing but trouble with the SPEC stage 2. If I had a way to get an SLP I would put it in today since my SPEC is out of the car again today.

I did the exact same thing to my car just over a year ago.

      SLP PP and T/O bearing
SLP disc (really just a stock disc)
      Needled pilot bearing

I put some emery paper on my "black and decker mouse" and used it to scuff up the surface of the original flywheel. I've had no problems with it. The SLP clutch is better than stock, but it will slip if you get it too hot. The "wet toilet paper trick" works awsome to remove the old pilot bushing! Give it a shot!

You don't ever touch anything with emery cloth. Either have it turned or replace it I say

It's common practice on a flywheel that doesnt need resurfacing. The emmery paper breaks up the glaze on the surface and allows the new clutch disc to break in properly. It's not like you are using it on your engine internals, it's just a flywheel!
