  • Hi I have a little wheel question.

Hi all, first I want to say this site rocks and it's a excillent distraction while your at work

I bought a 94 metalic green formula firebird this summer and I love it so much! It wasn't my first choice when looking for a daily driver but when I saw it, sat in it and herd the engine prrrr..there was no way I could pass it up!

Now for my question, I recently bought new rims/rubber for the summer. I was wondering if anyone knew if I needed to drop it for it not to look too high and goofy.

They are 245/40-18's in the front and 275/40-18's in the back on C6 corvette rims. I was looking for rims but I have to admit they were a impulse buy so now I am a little paranoid that they will not fit or raise my car up too much.

If I need to lower my car, what springs should I use, like brand and size?

Thanks for your time and any help I can get would greatly be appreciated

the back tires are going to raise your rear almost 1" over the stock height with the stock tires, the front will only raise the car 0.06" inches. so... that might not look too bad, since most of the fbodys have "saging" rears after time....

The other thing to look at too, is that the speedo will now be out by 3.75%, so you will now be traveling 3.75% faster than the speedo says, just to keep that in mind. Next time you get tires goto a 275 35 18 and you will be almost right on.(0.55% speed diff). I run 245 40 18 all the way around and my speedo is right on. Less than .28% difference from stock wheels and tires.

          Thanks Wolfman, DeWynter.

I am crazzy excited about them, They wont be perfect I guess but not realy realy bad eather. Thanks a ton for the info! I may even like the butt being up a little.

The rear wheels are used Pirelli's with 50% tread left on them, should be good for a summer then I can go 275/35-18 to correct the fits later.

Thanks for the link Joe too (nice ride), but I am realy leery of dropping my car if I dont need too because of winter. The only problem I have with snow is ground clearance atm.

          Thanks again!

Where in Canada Are you? I'm in alberta, we are finally getting nice weather for once, but its never to bad in my beater (94 sunbird) as I cant afford to crunch my formula in the winter Those rims should look really nice on the car! I think I will goto a 275 on the back next year, if my tires wear out this summer. I just wish I could get a 10 or 11 inch wide rim in the style I have

              I live in southren Ontario.

The snows not too bad but we have had 2 bad storms this year. This is the 2nd car I have driven in the snow and even with snow tires and sand it can get...fun :P

This is the first winter my car has been driven in winter, people told me not too but I couldn't afford a 2nd car.

I envy you though Alberta has some realy nice landscapes, I knew someone from jasper and flatbush.

To bad about the storms there. ts just been really cold here that few weeks(-40c) we got a fair amount of snow but not too bad, but of course march is when we get most of it anyways! Too bad you gota drive it in the winter, I just bought my sunbird for $500.00 just as snow was starting to fall. Teh guy thought he blew the motor, turns out it was just the timing belt, and lucky for me the 2 liter engines are 0 interferance, so he never bent any valves. $48.00 and 6 hours later it was running! It was an awsome deal as the car is in pretty good shape with no rust, and lady driven all its life (one owner). Just gota keep your eye open for good deals!

Yeeeaaahhhh Canada boys Im way out on the west coast in Vancouver. It is nothing but rain out here. Im lucky that I got a little truck for screwing around in the winter(even though it's not close to as bad as your guys' winters).
CFF you have to post some pics of your C6 wheels asap. I really want to see what those bad boys look like on a Formula. Later

I will post some pics with the rims on my car if you like but I am not going to be putting them on untill april I think.

I have x-ices on steel rims w/ hub caps on it atm, not alot of eye candy now as far as wheels go
