I came accross this information and thought some of you might enjoy reading about this fellow who vintage races his Camaro in England and also set up the Classic Camaro Club over there. Here is the story and some pictures of his car too:
Classic Camaro Club
The Club represents all owners and enthusiasts of Camaros from the cars inception in 1967 to the present day.
Tim Boles, Camaro Club Secretary, has been competing in a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 called 'Butch' for the past seven years with increasing success in a number of races featuring historic American cars, and in 1994 TCB Racing was established.
TCB Racing runs two Chevrolet Camaros with an aggregate horsepower of over 1000bhp, each car being capable of in excess of 150mph and a 0 to 100mph time in approximately eleven seconds! These thirty-year old cars are quicker in race tune and more powerful than almost every road going supercar available today. The Camaros are driven by Tim Boles, who has been competing in a 1968 Z28 Camaro "Butch" for the past seven years with increasing success, and David Edwards, who has entered a 1970 RS Z28 Camaro in the Anglo American Challenge. This championship is co-ordinated by the Aston Martin Owners Club, a highly organised and motivated car club, which encourages a high standard of vehicle preparation and requires close adherence to the original specification for the external bodywork. The aim of the Anglo American Challenge is to pitch British and American pre 1970's sportscars in closely fought competition. The cars involved include: Chevrolet Camaros, Shelby Mustangs, E-type Jaguars, Austin Healeys, Sunbeam Tigers, Chevrolet Corvettes, Lotus Elans and, of course, Aston Martins.
These races are very popular in Great Britain as evidenced by the frequent full turnout at a number of Britain's premier racetracks such as Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Donington and Snetterton. The races emulate the TransAm series of the period 1966 to 1970, run in the USA, when the big US manufacturers poured millions of dollars into the development of their "pony-cars" - so named after the Mustang. These cars are also known as Muscle Cars as a direct result of their enormous power, which makes them a handful both on and off the track! The full grid, composed of "Muscle Cars" and their English opposition, can have over 12,000 BHP on the grid
to start! Each edition of MUSA contains race reports of the progress of our racing Camaros.
TCB Racing has, over a number of years, raised money for a number of deserving Charities. The following Charities have benefited: Countryside Foundation for Education, SSAFA, Royal British Legion, Cancer Research, and Children with Leukaemia. Currently TCB Racing is aiming to raise money for The International Spinal Research Trust (ISRT), further details of this deserving charity are available upon request.
Those involved with the team have benefited not only from the considerable press coverage available from becoming involved with this unique Motorsport opportunity, but have also used the special TCB Racing Track Days to reward their best clients with a unique day at some of Britain's premier Race Venues. More unusual and rewarding than Golf Days these corporate hospitality days are hugely successful for Sponsors and their clients.
Tim is probably the more experienced "musclecar" racer, having campaigned his 1968 Camaro circuit racer since 1992. He set up the Classic Camaro Club UK in 1991 and has a reputation for excelling in poor weather conditions. In 1998 three out of his four outright wins were held in terrible (wet) conditions. David Edwards joined the team in 1999, having had class successes in the Porsche Classic Series previously. Both Tim and David are directors of insurance orientated companies operating in The Lloyd's of London insurance market.
