There's a lot more to that story about farmer Martin. He's become the NRA poster child (for good reason). I don't think there's any way he would have been prosecuted in the US.

I've read that you can be prosecuted in the UK for scaring off burglars with a fake gun. I feel sorry for everyone there. Maybe one day they'll be able to reclaim their rights. It wasn't always like that there.

I use 1911s, and carry a Colt Commander. Front Sight is a pretty darn good school if you really want to get serious about defensive handgun. It is amazing what they teach you there...not only the skills, but the liability and choices of using a firearm. However, this is one of those topics that could start a pretty heated debate. Personally, I would rather be dead then live in a place that didn't allow the law abiding and responsible citizenry's personal ownership of firearms.

One of Murphy's rules of war - lasers (and tracers) work both ways.

Also, chrome or nickel is for show. You just want to show someone your gun? That'll get you hauled in.

So if i get a chrome or nickel gun it wont work or someting. I just like really flashy things and what would be more flashy then a chromed out .45 with a laser.

Actually that isn't true. There is no beam of light from a laser that you can see to trace back to it's source unless the air is smoky or foggy. In clear air you can only see the dot when it hits a surface.

Actually from everything I have read about a police officer with a laser is that the lasers red dot on the bad guys chest has caused more than half of the bad guys to give up without a fight. Something about it showing where the hole is fixing to be if they don't give up just seams to bring the reality of the situation home.

In Texas, where I am from, you can shoot an intruder in your home, or property. Meaning that if you try to break into my home at night, during the day...whenever, if I fear for my safety or the safety of my family...you will leave with more holes than you came in with. I don't feel too bad for any kid or anyone else who does get shot while in the commision of a robbery. They are stealing from someone else, violating the sanctity of their home/business/personal space, and usually are threatening their victim's life in the process. If they would do like a normal person and get a job, then they wouldn't have to worry about getting shot by someone who is just protecting themselves. Sorry, but I rank thieves right up there with some of the worst scum on the planet, especially those that put a gun or knife to people's heads to take what is not rightfully theirs. Which is why I want to be a cop, then I get to put people like that away, at least for a while. Anyway....I still want to get a handgun once I move back to Texas....a Glock .40 would be my first choice, I think. I still like my shotgun, though.

Well the laws aren't as stupid in some of the countries. I grew up in Switzerland where every man had to join to army when he turns 19. In order to be prepared for war each soldier has his equipment including rifle or gun and amunition in the house. While you're active you have to go and shot a mandatory program once a year and if you fail the minimum requirements you'll be invited to join them for a weekend of practicing.

Almost every village has a 300 yard shooting range and some of them have one for pistols as well. So almost every village has a shooting club and kids from the age of 16 on can join and get their own rifle on loanwhich they can take home with them. You can see them after target practicing on the road on their bicycles with the rifle strapped on their shoulders.

During high school they had a local battle re-enactment every two years during the Summer fair. You could join them and the high schoolers would fight against troops formed by adult rifle clubs and so on. Quite a spectacle for the day. Of course everybody got a uniform and a retired Swiss Army rifle called "Carabiner" and fake amunition. Imagine over 200 high shool kids flying around through town with a rifle that is fully functional.

Don't know what the latest laws are about shooting an intruder in your own house over there though.

yall keep in mind, too... that huge calibers...such as that DE .50...are pretty tough to get a second shot off with any speed and accracy. of course, if you hit your target with your fist, you need a second...
