  • Second Street Speed - still building 1,000+HP LT1's

I was really shocked last week by a post here that indicated that Second Street Speed in Perkasie, PA was "closing their doors"....

For anyone not familiar with Second Street, they are the builders of some of the most impressive engines ever put into an F-Body, including George Baxter's variations in his 30th SS convertible... an 1,125HP Vortech blown 383 LT1 (9.03 @ 155mph in a 3,900# car), and a 1,350HP Vortech blown 383 Gen 1 SBC, raced in the PRO/Edelbrock Xtreme Street racing series last year (8.60 @ 160+ MPH, in the same car at 3,525# race weight). They also buil my little old LT1 engine.

I checked with the guys at Second Street, and they insisted the reports of their death were premature, they had no intention of closing anything down. Thinking that maybe they were just telling me what I wanted to hear (they are the holders of all my engine data, from over 40 dyno pulls, all my head flow tests, the cam card for my custom solid roller, etc.), I checked with George Baxter. While George has sold his 30th SS because of the need for immediate cash for one of his businesses, he is still part of the racing scene (he recently told me to keep an eye out for a "clean 3rd Gen chassis" ). After rolling on the floor laughing for a few minutes, he called Second Street and verified they were still going strong.

Second Street is still the premier race shop on the East Coast. Their own Pro5.0 Mustang runs 7.0x, and finished 2nd in at least one event the first year out in 2004. They upgraded their dyno capabilites to 2,000HP last year, so they could handle engines like George's. They "invented" an adjustable rocker for the modular Ford V8's that is now commerically available through an outside manufacturer, and when you see the ad for it in National Dragster, it directs you to Second Street Speed for information.

So.... after my near heart siezure at the prospect of losing my engine builders, not to mention the fate of an 1,100HP nitrous LT1 they just finished for a friend of mine, I am happy to report that Second Street is alive and well, and ready to accept your order
