    Howdy folks.

What's new? Anybody know the easy way to remove and ECU from a '91 F-body?

Remove dash kick plate from passenger side, reach up and undo slide clip and pull out ecu box. It may take some manuvering to get it out and on some models there is a screw on braket on the bottom that must come off first. It may also be easier for you if you remove the dash pad as you can get at the clip that hilds the ECU from the top then.

Ugh. Removing the dash pad is not what I want to do.

      Here is what I planned:
      • Unplug the battery.
      • Remove kick panels
      • Unplug the ECU from the bottom.
      • Unscrew the 7mm bolts on the white plastic bracket and hope the thing slides DOWN and OUT.

Anything beyond doing that seems like the wrong way. All I wantto do is consider adding this custom chip...

      What a friendly forum!

Oh hey... I can do an attachment. Cool!

This is the view from the floor pan of the passenger's side of the car looking up into where the ECU sits. See the white plastic "legs"? You are saying there is a clip holding the unit near the top?

It appears to be just velcroed on, like my 91 Camaro ECM is. Should just be able to pull it forward, and then down. But, honestly, I'm not very familiar with Firebirds.

Nice to see another Thirdgen.org member and TBIer here .

I've taken it out on my Firebird, it's the same as your Camaro

Are we looking at the same picture? There is velcro on the white bracket that holds the ECU?

Yep, there's a small strip of velcro about 1" long on the white bracket and the bottom of the ECM. Just push the ECM towards the small black box (cruise control module) and it should disconnect and then you can lower the ECM down.

Always liked Greenville... good parties near Furman. Never missed one on the way back home from Boone (App State).

                  Thanks mang!

Ha ha, no problem. My sister just graduated from Furman, and let me tell you, the largest collection of hot girls I have ever seen were at that graduation. Too bad I was with my whole family .

Aw man... my perception back in the early 90's was that those chicks at Furman could be pretty and pretty snobbish. Now App State and UGA... don't get me started. Silly me married a gal from Presbyterian College in Clinton.

Met a guy online not far from you in Greenville named Brian. He programs PROM's as a sideline. He's sold me so far... Now I have to install it and see what happens. The price was certainly right so I figured it was worth a shot since this is pretty close to plug-n-play.

                      Check him out: TBI Chips.com

This may be the only endorsement I give unless of course Brian's chip is good. I know to tune properly this way I should datalog my car and then go for the custom burn but believe it or not, that skillset is hard to find here in the Silicon Valley.

                      Cheers,

I had a feeling at was from TBIchips.com. I think he's the only guy, on the internet at least, that can tune TBI motors properly. I'll probably end up getting a chip from him whenever I get around to installing some headers.

Let me know how the chip works out, I'd really like to know.

You and me both. I have plans for a new exhaust in the Spring which will help everything and I am concerned about my aging 700R4. Regardless, any little bit will help. California is not going to let me have my way with the car other than what I can do in a subtle manner.

                          Cheers,

I guess the 89 mounts different. Mine has a clip and no velcro you can get at the clip from the bottom if you got small hands ( my cousin she undid it ).
