I have a 2000 T/A with a 6 speed and stock rear that is starting to sing. I want to go to 4.10 gears but I have to drive the car evey day and am a little worried about road manners. As it is now the car will do 45 mph at 1000 rpm in sixth gear. I just want to know if anyone can tell me how much of an rpm difference it will be with the lower gears.

lets put it this way, my 97 Comp T/A, 6th speed, with the lt4 hot cam and 52mm tb, and lots of other stuff... got better mileage after i put 4:10's in her... because it made 5th and 6th gear more efficient.....

I ahve found gas milage to be even better for me with the 4.10's
I would hadly use 6th as it was with the old gear usually only above 60
but with these 4.10's I can sit in 6th at 45 with no problem....the road manners are just fine, you will ust get higher up in gear quicker

bout 250rpm or less.. not bad at all. first gear rocks...2nd is killer! third is even more torquey..
remember, gears dont make you "faster"......they make you "quicker".

Numerically, its very simple.
4.10 / 3.42 = 1.20
For any given road speed, your RPM in a particular gear will increase by 20%. At 45mph your current 1,000RPM will increase to 1,200RPM (I'm with Ken, do NOT lug it at 1,000RPM in 6th gear). If you look at top speed in each gear (assuming stock 25.65" tire diameter), let's say at 6,000RPM:
GEAR - - 3.42 - -4.10
1st - - - 50 - - - 42
2nd - - - 75 - - - 63
3rd - - - 103 - - - 86
4th - - - 134 - - 112
5th - - - 181* - -151
6th - - - 268* - -223*
