I just bought a erson gear drive for my car.sbc 327,problem is,is that there are no timing marks on neither cam nor crank gear.Finding tdc. of crank is easy anyone no an easy way to set the cam at the right position?

Can't you just put the cam gear on and align the marks on the timing gears? Cams, themselves, can only be set up with the degree wheel, but that is after the gears are installed that you can check the advance/retard of the cam in relation to the crank position. Then if you need to advance or retard the cam, you can use use offset bushings, or in some cases, multiple keyway positions in the crank gear to cram it in.

That makes sense, sorta, because you have the idler gears inbetween the cam & crank. In that case, I would put the old gear and timing chain on temporarily to get everything all lined upas close as possible, then mark the positions of the cam & try to assemble the gear drive without moving the cam. Then you're going to have to degree the cam to see where it's at.
