ok so i was driving to work the other night (and yes i was driving like a bit of an [edit]) and thear is a bit of a straight that leads up to the yard whear all the trucks are parked so i kock the shifter into first and gun it i get very bad axle tramp and a loud banging from underneith the car before i have to break VERY hard as they have just built a speed hump that i forgot about as i do this i hear a metalic grinding noise (not brakes) from under the car. now when i pull away or back up i get this banging sound from the floor. so i am guessing that i have broken the trans mount but what could the grinding noise have been ? i have got a B M R drive shaft loop fitted is it possible that the trans is moving up and down that much that the drive shaft is rubing on the loop. no one to blame but me i guess

Yep . . . sounds like your tranny mount. I have a 97 Z28 LT1 A4. It eats a tranny mount every 45-50K - rips 'em right in half. It also goes through harmonic balancers every 35-40K. I have 125,000 miles on it and I've driven it very hard. That's what we get for having too much horsepower. Wait a minute . . . what am I saying?? There's never too much horsepower!

I've heard that they take a lot more abuse than the stock ones. Here's a link to a Website that sells them:

Damn . . . couldn't make it a link. . . .okay, paste it in and check out item #40. There's a lot of photos so give it a minute to load.

            good news bad news

i have just been down to my mates trans shop and had hi look at my car we found that there was a bolt missing from the trans mount and the center bolt that holds the mount to the crossmember was loose so that is now fixed. now the bad news we can confirm that the diff is well and truly shot or FUBARED to quote my mate the L S D is not working at all and ther is aprox 1/2 to 3/4 of a inch play in the diff its self so time to fitt a new axle. i know i have asked on another post about this but is it worth replacing the diff i have with a eaton unit or should i change the whole axle for one out of a later car ?
