  • Aftermarket exhaust for WS6 convertible

I am new to this board and recently (12-18-04) bought a 2002 WS6 convertible with 10,000 miles. The car was equipped with the Hurst shifter, and a previous owner had done some mild carbon fiber interior trim modifications. The stock exhaust on the WS6 sounds great when you get on it hard, but I would like more noise on idle and while cruising at highway speed. I really don't need more power. I bought a 1996 non-WS6 6 speed TA new in August 1995, and I can't believe how much faster the 2002 WS6 seems, even though it is a convertible and the 96 was a coupe.

From what I have read on these internet forums, it seems that the SLP Loudmouth is the loudest of the catback systems for these cars. My question is whether having a true dual exhaust system installed would make a better (louder) sound, or will the Loudmouth do the job? Is there a louder catback system? When I was in college, I had a 78 TA with dual exhaust and glasspacks. That is the sound I am looking for, although I realize that the 400 Pontiac engine may have been responsible for part of that sweet tone.

Are there any systems that won't fit because my car is a convertible?

I've got the Loudmouth on my 93 Z and love it to death. Nice grumble at idle, loud bark when you spike the throttle and good tone while cruisin' the freeway. True-duals would probably be louder, but I think there's some ground-clearance issues with it for street-driven vehicles. I think you'd be very happy with the Loudmouth, esp. for the price. Good luck on your decision.

I have the loudmouth, just put it on this past weekend in fact.

Lets put it this way, after driving around for like 3 hours (the weather was beautiful here in chicago this past saturday), i came home and parked my car on the driveway. Before i shut her down, i threw one final nice rev....and set off 2 car alarms

So to sum it up, the loudmouth is a pretty quiet exhaust

Kinda makes you sad to turn it off, huh? I still remember the first alarm I set off...almost brings a tear to my eye lol

It's honestly like you just read my mind right there. I set off my first alarm actually 2 blocks away from where it was installed

Speaking of setting of alarms, you should have seen how many i set off before the loudmouth went on while i was just drivin around with open exhaust for a day

HAHAHA. I've heard the LT1 open-exhaust...makes me drool everytime too lol. Heath, someting else I just thought of. Borla makes a good cat-back too. Kinda expensive, but the adjustability of it is pretty cool. Just another option for ya. Take care guys

true duals dont do jack for the cars unless the motor is heavily moded... and they are nightmare to install on the drivers side...almost impossible.

i have the loudmouth on the Hawk...and had it on my CompTA also.... when it first came out infact.......

              it rocks............

on the Comp, with the bigger cam and all.... i could break windows..

                  Heath -

Word on the street is that Flowmaster delivers great sound, but it will actually take away some power...

SLP Loudmouth is definitetly the loudest cat-back, but I think it sounds a lot better on LT1 cars than LS1 cars. It starts to get kinda raspy with the LS1 - especially if you do headers.

True duals don't have any more ground clearance issues than headers/y-pipe cars do... but it is kinda pricey. I believe TSP is really doing a lot of true dual conversions right now. If you can hook up the true-duals to a Corsa cat-back, this should give you a good idea of what that would sound like: http://www.corsaperf.com/flashc5.htm

Honestly, that's most unbelievable sound I've ever heard ... that has such an awesome high-pitched scream to it at high revs it's incredible

I used to think that. Someone on here set me straight I think... I believe any catback will make more power over stock, but flowmaster is just the worst. Also, it's not SS. It will rust from the inside. The tips rust pretty nasty too. The tips are ugly anyway, IMO. Magnaflow rocks. SS, 3.5" tips. Sound is good, (Check the site) and you can't beat the price.

Actually, by "word on the street" I meant "proven by dyno graphs on ls1tech" .... hehehehe.......

Flowmasters cost you like 2-5 HP.
