  • OMG, Just when I thought I had everything handled.....

I swear, life throws curveballs my way with regularity. Some of you know the story that several months ago, I met my sister for the first time. We got along great, it was an experience of a lifetime. She had flown down a few times to get away from the family up in New York, her life story is full of twists and turns, some not too happy at that. As is turns out, she was diagnosed with Cancer. She is already a cancer survivor from years ago, so this is something she is familiar with. About the same time her now ex-boyfriend of many years beat the crap out of her for the second time, so that relationship is over and she made the decision to move down to Florida. We discussed quite a few things and we decided to pull together and split living expenses, she was moving in with us. She is bringing her 14 year old son, I get to meet my nephew for the first time too! This will be great for both of us as I've been raising my son by myself, I will actually get a little help with that. She adores my son, they get along great!

Now for the curveball...... She had surgery 2 weeks ago and the prognosis looks good. The curveball is that she just found out that she is pregnant. With twins no less. There will be some hurdles that will have to be cleared, there is no certainty that everything is OK with them yet. She always wanted more kids so she is leaning toward having them. She was in a state of panic and asked if it was OK to still move down. Of course I said yes..... It's family! Now that I think about it, holy crap....... babies in the house! Ironically, that was something I didn't bargain for but ya know, I love kids. Sometimes I do wonder how I get into these situations. Oh well, life goes on.

Joe, sounds like things are going great between you two and that is great for ya. I would let her move in no matter what she decides, you will have a great time. It may get stressful at times but b/c she is your sister you gotta get her and the kids away from the bad situation in NY.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up and totally worn out, loudly proclaiming......WOW WHAT A RIDE!!!

Well Joe, I gotta say, you are a great guy and a great brother for helping her out. The fact that she has twins on the way is going to make things interesting. I moved into a house with my sister and brother right after my sister had her second child. The dad was a controlling pr*ck who still pretty much stalks her, so she broke up with him before the baby was born. So I had to help with diaper changes and playing with them and stuff. I can't say I minded a whole lot though. I got to be really involved with my niece and nephew and got to help my big sister out. I think you will be glad you did it years from now. Family always comes first.

Joe...everything happens for a reason. Maybe those kids, if growing up with that jerk of a bf, would contribute nothing to society except using our tax dollars for their jail time. Now, that they will have a good start to their lives being in a good home, may have the potential to grow up and do something amazing with their time here on this planet. At least those kids will have a better life living in a loving household.

I hope you and your sister can come together, and pull through everything coming out on top in the end. I wish the very best for you and your new family...God Bless!

Glad you had it in your heart to take your sister in. Just think about the predicament your sister would have been in right now if she hadn't found out about you. Family is very important and this will all work out in the end.

Joe, little hint when dealing with kids, and it only involves two words:

                Sleep Darts
"No, officer, that bottle is my onboard Halon system"

Thanks for the kind words guys...... the whole thing kinda has me feeling a bit weird. I had never even dreamed being in a situation like this, but I guess that's life. I'm sure I'll enjoy the heck out of it. I'm also glad I still have my earplugs and headset left over from drag racing.

You are doing the right thing. It's going to be very rewarding to help raise those little tots.

The biggest thing I run into with my little ones is that sometimes I find it hard to do anything for myself because I feel guilty anytime I spend money and it's not for the little ones.

Anyway, good luck. Sounds like things will be good for you no matter what happens.

                          Oh no.

I love kids, but when the smoke clears I think that these two will be plenty.
