Good news: my oil filter works. Bad news: it filtered metal shavings. Rap rap rap rap. Doh!

I'm assuming rod bearing(s). So now do I get machining done, replace all the bearings (main, rod, & cam - might as well), probably need rings too since I've been using oil, or just buy a short block?

And if I buy a short block, might as well do a 383 stroker. And forged internals. And try to keep from getting divorced.

sounds like a bad situation there. but how do you tell if your oil filter catched any shavings? i'm not saying your a lier if thats what you think, i just dont know how to do it so i can check for future reference. But a 383 would be bad a$$ to put in there, i say go for that

I drained the oil, removed the filter and could see some sparkles, then poured out the rest of the oil in the filter and it was obvious. You can also cut the filter open to see what's in the paper.

I always make a mess when I cut one open at work , but it's not a hassle to cut it.

Takes less than a minute with the right tool. Our cutter is bigger than this one, our hydraulic filters are almost 6 inches across.

I'm voting for the 383 also. If you gotta build an engine you may as well bump it up a notch.
