I would like to see you do a turbo rotary swap. You would have alot of power on tap and keep that front end weight down.

Even this looks completely sissy to me, sorry. There is nothing macho or manly about that. girly, girly, girly.....

That is what this is all about. Macho. There is *nothing* macho about a miata. Little convertibles are designed for women.

Tom, I ask you again, if you want a convertible, why not get a f-body convertible? With some simple suspension tweaks it will go around the corners very nicely and go fast in a strait line too. And the bonus -- it will be macho!

I already have an F-body. One of the main reasons i'm doing this is because i want something different. It might be girly now, but when i get one and finish it up, it will be a Tom boy!.....wait....that's still kinda fruity. Anyhow, i have my Trans Am. I'd probably have the hardtop on the Miata most of the time. My gf loved t tops though, so i'd imagine she'll love a convertible. No convertible has ever really struck me as manly or macho, but i have an infatuation with this little car. I might just get one, drop in a light weight motor with more power than the stock one, then call it a day. I just don't want a car that goes from 0-60 in forever and a day. Even the 5.5 seconds for my LT1 seems to take an eternity.

I want something different. It would be like arguing with someone that wants a supercar, telling them that they could get a Lingenfelter conversion for their ZO6 for less money, with better performance and blah blah blah, who the hell cares? Some people simply want something different. I have $600 sitting in my room that's just to be spent. Sure, i could get some mods for my car, but i have no desire to. I want something that's fully customized. I don't want another factory car. I've always been into mixing and matching. I don't know why but it's how i've always been.
Are rotary motors any good? People rave about RX7's but i've never really been in one. I don't want something that's 100% reliant on forced induction for speed. I want something that's quick even without the turbo/ supercharge/ nitrous. I want a power adder to be the icing on the cake. Maybe you guys are right though. Maybe i should look into a smaller, lighter motor. Is there anything small that will plant me in the seat? What about one of those Honda B16's? I don't want to have to get to 7,000 RPM to feel any power, so i'm assuming a Honda motor is out of the question. I lack patience when it comes to acceleration. That's one of the reasons that i couldn't stand my brothers friends Neon when he let me drive it. I stood on the gas and not much happened. My car is peppy enough for me,but some time down the road, i need to add another car. I've had 2 F-bodies. I'm more than happy with one.

You want a powerful, good-handling car? Here...

315 hp thanks to the M3 I-6. Handles on rails, faster than some stock LS1s (the number represented by "some" may vary ) and sleeker than a Miata could ever be. 'Nough said

Steve I beg to differ there. Sexy, yes , very. Fun to drive and fast, yes but I dont think there faster than an ls1. Very close in a straight line maybe but I dont think there faster. In the corners the bimmer will take a stock ls1 but in a straight line, I say there close but I do agree with you on its a hell of lot faster and better looking than a miata.

                  Nightrage -

Just throwing some ideas around. If you want a two-seater convertible that's fun to drive, you wont see too many around, and there is absolutely NOTHING girly about it... How about a Cobra kit car? You can find some used for a song, and if you're willing to spend a bunch of cash on it, get one without a motor and do an install on that instead. Just a thought.

Plus, tell me this isn't simply awesome...

You know, i forgot all about that. According to some magazine i read, they run the 0-60 in 3.8 seconds with a 4.6 in there. They're awesome looking. Still powered by Ford though. Ewwwwwww . You can drop a GM motor in there, right?

Absolutely. In my opinion, it's almost sacreligous to put anything other than a 427 side-oiler in it, but those are pretty expensive. Installing an LS1 wouldn't be out of the question, plus working on it would be far easier than a Miata.

If you want to look at Cobra Replicars check out Factory Five Racing.

That is where I am buying my kit from in a couple of years.

You can put anything you want in one of these. I have seen them with 3.8 Turbos, 5.0L, LS1's, and motors all the way up to 500+ cube BB.

I'll have to agree with Randy. Factoryfive is a Cobra Kit company that is very well spoken of. There are a few others out there, like T-3, but Factoryfive has been doing it a while.

Again, you can find many of these kits used, basically finished, but the person never put a motor in. It's more common than you might think. You'll get a zero mileage kit, with all the frame/suspension work done (and in some cases, the body/paint), and you can select whatever engine you want to drop in.

A couple more photos for inspiration...

^^^Personally, my favorite color combo for a Cobra.

Always loved the open grille on the 427's as opossed to the mesh grille in the 289.

The red is a close second favorite.

Again, I'm not going to accuse you of being stupid if you decide to do an engine swap into a Miata, I'm just giving my opinion of what I would do with some extra cash if I had it available. Life's all about options...

I'll need to find the Motor Trend, but the M Roadster actually beat out an LS1 C5 Roadster...narrowly, but it still did. Also, hence the reason I said "some" stock LS1s
