Is that too many miles? I went to look at one. Its bone stock or appears to be and prety good shape with a few flaws, but what do u expect from a 96. Only thing i dont like is it doesnt have t-tops I know a 4.6 thats well taken care of has plenty of like in it at 80k. Hurry with reponses

Just know that at roughly 100K you'll need to overhaul the ignition. Most likely some seals about that time too. As long as you plan on spending some dough on upcoming maintainance, for 7000 it better be virtually flawless.

The mileage is slightly below average (@12k - 15K a year), but the price is a bit on the high side. Can it be had for a little less? Is it an M6 or auto? Also, I would find out if the opti-spark and water pump have been replaced recentley being it's an LT1.

Not sure if you realize it, but it's the last LT-1 Hawk. That is a nice prize.

Well i am gonna try to talk them down to 5900. It wont see 100k until about 4 years from now. I been putting like 5k a year on the stang. I wouldnt pay over 6k for it, the trans am. If i can get it for that and get a better rate for a loan and pay mine off... then ill spend less each month. I allready called and a 350V8 will be 30 bucks less a month for insurance then my 281V8 So whats the deal with the ignition and waterpump? So they just go bad? Is this easy to replace?

They were originally designed for 100K trouble free miles. Plan on replacing the plugs, wires and distributer all in one shot.

Well i know how to do that, changing plugs and such. But i know on my babys mommas dads (lol) 88 vette changing the plugs were a BIATCH and the bay on this T/A looks alot more cramped. If i get it ill go ahead and change all of that before the 100k.

Changing plugs, wires, and distributor on a LT1 fbody is a whole new experience from anything else. You'll need to remove parts such as the alternator and starter for plugs and water pump to get your distributor and actually getting 100k out of an opti makes you lucky. Do a search on here and you'll find plenty of posts on them and what it takes to replace them.

Not exactly. In reality, the plugs can be changed by someone with a small arm and hands without removing anything providing you have the proper tools. It's just easier to work with some items removed. Its doesn't take much. These cars actually are pretty easy to work on. With these cars, if you are doing plugs you do the wires too. The distributer can go out at any time. Some last a long life, other puke in half the time.

theres two ways to look at your problem:

                          1. look for excuses not to buy an f body.

                          2. look for excuses to buy an f body.

the one with the most excuses wins.

Hmmm..see i have done all the plugs on all my cars and the hardest was this car i have now, but in no comparison was it as hard as this sounds. The driver side easy as pie. The passenger side was easy except the back one by the firewall. I had to remove the air intake and that was all. The very back one had a metal bracket that sat right on top of the wire and plug. Needless to say when i swapped intake manifolds..that bracket went bye bye and this time was a sinch all the way around. Hmmm...i am sure i can do it with my dads help since he always helps me and has lots of tools, just removing the starter sounds intimidating. Alt doesnt sound bad. I would just do all the plugs, wires and distributor at once. I am not used to cap and rotor since i have DIS. So given i do all of this and stuff..my question is is 80k gonna last a while? I have 62k now and it seems bad to go backwards, but i want a trans am and this deal i might actually save money each month. This car will see weekend driving and about 5k a year and maybe 2 to 3 times a year track times. With proper maintenance is it gonna last to 120k and run strong? I kno a guy with a 98 GT with the stock bottom end and tranny with 123k and still running 12s with mods of course. Is this what i can expect from this car?
