I know this thread is old, but I saw this road on the travel channel and looks like a great drive!
It is the mount evans road and is the highest drivable road in the entire US

    http://www.clearcreekcounty.org/mtevans.html.

The road starts at 7,600 feet and ends at 14,264 feet . it opens memorial day weekend due to the sheer amount of snow (75 foot snow drifts).

I had to dig this old thread. We spent the weekend in the mountains again. We came across this road Saturday morning. http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ (Deals Gap, North Carolina). What a road. 11 miles and 318 turns. We got lucky and spent the night in a nearby town and got up really early so we beat most of the bikers out. We only had 1 set of 2 bikers catch up to us while driving it. Yes we pulled over and let them go. They even gave us a wave to thank us. Of coarse Claire (my wife) was putting the Ebach sway bars and Eagle GTs through their paces on the Beamer. I need to take the Z up there. We get to the end and pull off in a scenic over look to take pictures when a guy pulls up in a work truck and gets out and unlocks the gate on a forest service road. I get out of the car and ask him if he is they guy with a shovel that scrapes up the bikers when they crash. He started nodding and said yea that was him. Pretty funny.

Check out some of the pictures of it here
http://www.us129photos.com/ (we saw a van with US129photo.com on the side and a guy taking pictures)
