I agree, GM likes to blame the healthcare and legacy costs for the reason they're not competitive, and in a way they are part of it because GM can't price their vehicles competitively. However, a person will be willing to pay the $1,500 or so GM has to tack on to cover healthcare costs if the product warrants it, and right now they don't. GM has always been 4-5 years behind the curve on new trends. They need to be the ones bringing out fresh new designs that get people talking. Then when you've got them looking at the car, wow them with a great ride, performance, and utility and you've got a winning vehicle. Price it competitively and you'll sell all you can build. Right now GM is not doing any of those things.

Look at the HHR, and the new Camaro with rumored retro styling, and GM insistance on building big SUV's and trucks. The HHR and retro styling are a few years behind the class leaders in those segments, namely the PT Cruiser and the Mustang. People are trending away from SUV's and trucks towards crossovers and more fuel efficient sedans. Honda and Toyota will have a dozen Hybrid models out before GM markets its first one.

It just doesn't seem like there's any imagination within GM right now.
