  • RIP-Zaily... Worst day of my life.

This was the hardest day of my life.

I got Zaily, my Golden Retriever (mix) August of 2002. I was a sophomore in college and 19 years old. She was 5 weeks old. Being in college, I got to spend over 15-20 hours with her everyday as she grew up. We instantly became best friends and of course grew very very close. She did in three years what most dogs do in their whole lives. She lived in 4 different places with me, and three roommates who also grew very close to her. Zaily and I did everything together, hiked tons of trails, swam in tons of lakes, ponds, pools, etc... I knew her better than anybody and she knew me. She was a very quiet, supportive, protective, and sensitive dog, to me she was the perfect dog, all I could ever ask for.

When I got a job in June, right out of college she of course came with me. Moving more than 5 hours away from every friend and family member was very rough, but I was lucky to have my best friend with me through it all. Sunday, as I went out to check on her, I found her dead.

I tried for nearly 15 min to revive her with chest compressions and breathing into her snot. I finally gave up collapsing on her chest in a ing heap. The vet says it was most likely congenital aortic stenosis, which affects Newfoundlands, and can be found in Goldens. She was only three.

This was the worst day of my life, and will never forget it. She was the greatest dog to me, and feel as if I've lost my best friend. Work was very hard today, and I’m sure it will be for the rest of the week.

I didn't write this for sympathy, but I wanted my f-body family to know about this great animal. I could use a little cheering up. Thanks for everything guys.

    Adam

my God, friend, I'm so so sorry.......and as you know, I know how you feel......

the loss of a dog to a dog person, is like losing a family member, i've been crushed by the loss of ours over the years, first was Bandit, our 10 yr old malamute shep, cancer........then Ginger, 17 years old...husky akita, got her before mary and i got married.......then came my beloved Nikona, my first wolfdog...... they get into our soul......we bond as one....

remember the good times, remember the love, you gave all......and she knows that......she always will........

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

head up.....carry on broh.....bring your love to another someday. you can never replace them, you learn to live with it......but you can offer another animal your special love

Adam........I am so so sorry for your loss. We feel your pain and know your dog just can't be replaced. My wife and I have lost many dogs, cats and horses over the years. They were all our friends and we just have our memories now. Our current pets help ease the pain but we can never forget all the friends we have lost.

Sorry for your loss...... It reminds me when I lost my Rottweiler. The pain is still a part of me 10 years later, I could never bring myself to get another. She will indeed be with you forever.

Losing a pet is truly like losing a family member. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. They bring us so much enjoyment and ask for so little in return. Please keep your chin up as she's in heaven now.

Oh my, I cannot even imagine what you are going through.

Was sad day for me when I had to take my purebred Golden Cocker Spaniel to be put down (she was 15 1/2) in Jan '01 . It is never easy letting someone you care about, go.

Best help I can suggest open up your home and adopt a golden retreiver and give anther golden the chance at happiness you gave Zaily.

I feel for you big time, man. I lost my best friend, Colin, in '96. He was a pure breed Irish Setter. I still miss him incredibly to this day. He was, as Zaily was to you, the greatest dog I've ever known. I have two Jack Russels now, and I love them to death, but it just isn't the same feeling. It's going to be tough, but as everyone has already stated, keep your chin up. You did a noble thing in giving that dog a great home. You will be together again.

                      BTW - Great write-up, Ken. You're a good man.
