  • RIP Tookie

I think that the execution of Tookie is the biggest bunch of U.S. government crap. Tookie was sentenced to death in 1981 over 4 murders that he suposidly commited eventhough there was never straight direct evidence linking him to all 4 of the murders. There was only undisputable DNA evidence of the convenience store clerk that he killed. But on the other hand, throughout the life of Charles Manson he has been arrested and convicted of kidnappings, robberies, car jacking, pimping and transportating prostitutes and several murders. Charles Manson was sentenced to death for murder on April 19, 1971. Now why the heck is this guy still alive and Tookie is dead. This is so irratating to me, that a black guy that seemed to turn his life somewhat around by writing anti gang childrens books in jail was executed before a white guy with an extensive criminal record and has been sitting on Death Row for 10 years longer. Im not calling Arnold a racist in any way, shape, or form. I just think it is absolutly rediuclous why this man was killed. OK why not just let the man live in prison for the rest of his life, being that it is actually alot cheaper to hold a prisoner in for life than it is to execute them. I think that this countries judicial system is completly upside down and it really has to change because it is just not fair to kill somebody while, somebody else has been on death row for 10 years longer and is still hanging on to his life.

HE STARTED THE CRIPS!! I mean sorry for the caps but b/c of him, thousands of poeple died. Its like saying, "im going to start a killing organization, yet i wont kill anyone, and ill have my soldier kill other poeple." I dont think so. He was responsible for this. I mean i hate the "Governater!" but just b/c he had someone write some book for him about staying out of gangs does not mean he had a change of heart.

Ummm, last I checked, this is a state matter, not a federal matter. How is this a reflection on the country's judicial system? Also, as was mentioned, look at what Tookie helped to start. Can you honestly say that he didn't have a part in the deaths of more people than Manson? Could you look in the eyes of all the mothers and fathers that lost their children to the stupid gang wars and say that? While his books may show some signs of change, his attitude did not. He made no effort to help stop the gang violence personally (sorry, children's books don't do much for the actual people involved) nor did he cooperate with the authorities to crack down on gang violence. And his nomination for a Nobel peace prize is a joke. I don't envy the people that watched his death, but his contributions to life weren't nearly as positive as people seem to think.

Amazing.... this case has gone on for 25 years, and no one was able to convince multiple appeals courts that he was innocent, or treated unfairly. He knew the penalty for murder when he committed the crimes. No sympathy whatsoever. I'm amazed that anyone could distort the truth the way you have. Appears you bought into the wailings from the ultra-left, ultra-liberal, anti-American celebrities who take up these causes.

        Cry me a river.

RIP the four people he murdered.

Tookie took the lives of four people just by himself. He co-founded a gang that took the lives of countless others. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Another point to think about - When he was put to death, he got to have a last meal and say goodbye to loved ones. He was also put to sleep easily. His victims were not so lucky.

Lets make a law that if a person is convicted of murder they should have to die the way their victim died. Maybe that would make someone think twice before killing someone.

Dookie it was way past your time and the world is better off without you.

The reason Manson isn't dead is because the CA supreme court declared the death penalty cruel and unusual a year after he was sentenced (1972). I agree this was bad move by the "government". Manson should be dead, but it is not racism that kept him alive.

Just because DNA is one of the most solid pieces of evidence doesn't mean it should become the only standard of proof. If you think Tookie was innocent because there was no DNA, then I have a bridge for sale just for you.

If you really want to convince people your gang life is behind you, maybe you should stop using you gang name.

I really doubt selling less than 400 copies of his childrens books had any real impact at all. The press would lead you to believe that he is Dr. Seuss or something.

I obviously support the death penalty, and Dookie was a role model for the reason why.

I don't think DNA was invented yet when Tookie was convicted.

He comes up for parole every few years.... don't really expect him to ever get it.

Manson was spared because ALL executions were stopped in the '72. The U.S. supreme court ruled on a California case, it wasn't the california supreme court... and all the prisoners in the country who were on death row had their sentences commuted to life.

And I don't believe for a second that it costs more to kill an inmate than it does to keep him for life. It costs in excess of $30,000/ yr to house each inmate. Over a 50 year life sentence that's over $1.5 million. There's no way it costs that much to execute someone, unless maybe you include the costs of fighting all their appeals. But there's a good way to affect that and that's to take away some of the appeals process. Of course, there should always be an appeal or two but the decades of like we have now is rediculous.

I have no sympathy for tookie. He was a murderer either directly or indirectly, and he ruined millions of young lives and the lives of their families.
