  • Hey wolfman, quick ? maybe you can help.

My dog is acting super strange today. This morning he got up with my mom like he does every morning. He's just pacing the floor in circles, with his back arched up, panting heavily. His heart is racing. He's been like this all morning.

It's got my mom really worried, I'm starting to worry too. She is wondering if maybe someone had rodent killer or rat poison outside and he got into it.

I have never seen him act like this. He's a shepherd chow mix and he's only 8 years old.

Sound like poison? I cannot afford a vet. Don't know what to do. I hope he isn't dying.

This is usually a sign of pain. Will the dog eat or drink?? What color are the gums and tounge? Another sign to look out for is if he is licking a certain spot. Or feel around till they let out a yelp. Also might be dehydrated.

His tongue is same as always, pink with black all over it. He is still panting heavy. He's been like this, that we know of, since 6 AM. I am calling my Grandma, and she's going to take him to the vet.

I haven't seen a paycheck in 6 weeks, Parents are broke. Spending any kind of money is impossible, there isn't any.

No greenies, I gave him fresh water this morning, he hasn't touched it, hasn't eaten. He's lying on my bed right now, but he just looks awful. Eyes are half open, panting, curled up in a ball.

I dont know if he's sick or what. I was thinking if he was in pain, maybe he was running in the backyard and he hit some ice and slid into something. It happened to him last year. He ran up the porch, slid, nailed the house, and limped for a minute cause he hurt his paw really bad.

I am going to get him to the vet.

I walked around the backyard to see if I could find anything he could have gotten into, and nothing. There's a lot of snow too so I can see his tracks of where he's been. He's mostly indoors anyway. Goes out to do his business and he comes right back in. Never outside for more than 10 minutes. He was fine last night when he went to bed too.

He is fine. He injured his right leg somehow. I would guess in the snow. Made up a splint, no pain killers, otherwise he'll walk on it. He's ok I guess, chillin on my bed right now.

                            i just saw this thread.

no offense man.....but if you have a dog, you have to be able to afford a vet.....hard times hit alot of folks...vets can make arrangements.. you cant let an animal suffer or die while you stand by without a vet..we would sell our cars, house, and whatever it took to save one of our animals........if not, you should'nt have a dog.... you need to get him in a rescue league so they can find a home for him that can care for him....dogs rely 100% on their human owners/protectors.... they are not like people, who if were sick...and nobody took them to the doctor..they would seek help from someone else besides their parents.....

its not fair to the animal.

so, this leg injury? you sure the leg is not broken? is it a wound?...both? why the splint?..if its broken...this animal is really suffering inside.... you need to get it looked at and x-rayed.

hehe, you sound just like my grandma, that's why I called her. I have zilch man. And even if I did to something drastic like decide to sell my car, I couldn't do it in time if something were seriously wrong. My grandma said almost the same thing. He has to go, even if they have to put him down you can't let him suffer. I didn't feel too bad putting her on the spot, she did afterall buy him without consulting my mom, which made mom REALLY mad, because she had just got the house clean of all the previous dog's hair lol. He has cost a lot in the years. When we got him, he was very sick, like almost deathly, so we had to have him treated for his first couple months. Then he got cancer, which I guess cost my parents a mint to have removed from his back, before it spread. He's cost them a lot, and they are so broke right now, that if it came down to it, we'd have to give him to someone that could take care of him, or have him put down.

She took him to the humane society, and they immediately noticed that he was holding one leg up, which I didn't see him do at home, he was just walking slow for a minute, then lying down all curled up. They examined his leg but didn't x ray it. They said he should be fine, but if he isn't better in a couple days bring him back.

Also, I found this out from my mom talking to her more, that he was fine this morning when he got up, and she let him out like normal, but when she went to let him back in, he was just lying by the back door, and he walked in really slow.

He seems a ton better now, from earlier. He's not panting, heart isn't racing so much. He's just chillin on the bed under the fan, nappin'. He got up and got some water earlier too. Everyone here is watching him close. He's the baby of the house.
