Hey, if it handles better than what does it matter?
I don't see how it could. One of the problems I have seen with strut designs is when the wheels are turned the tires camber the opposite way that you would want them to. That makes them feather not to mention puts less tire on the ground. The tires tip in and out as they travel too. Fred's little picture shows that well. I can't believe they are going back to struts.

Well, you may be right...I based what I said from Scott's comments on another message board. GM is shooting for class leading performance with this car.
">be best in class in acceleration
>be best in class on a road course and autoX
>be best in class in fuel economy
>be best in class in driver comfort
>be best in class in terms of crashworthiness -- five stars all around..........."
Don't know how it'll compare to the 4th gen...I guess that remains to be seen.

The third gens had struts in front, and they could out handle fourth gens.
Look at the cornering numbers from say an 89 Iroc, compared to an 00 SS.
I suspect the strut setup in front is a money saver, so they can spend more on the independent rear. I dont have a problem with that as long as it performs.

Believe it or not...I'll have to find the post, but he also has mentioned that the 4th Gen SS would post better times than a Corvette on a road course. It was a GM test track he was mentioning.

Do you have any data to back that up? I find that really hard to believe.

I found a wide degree of ratings for Irocs, ranging from the lowest of .84 to the more common claims of .87 to .92.
After looking around the most common figures I could find for a 4th gen SS were .87 G's, and not much above that.
I couldnt find a direct comparison, though.
Don't get caught up in the straight G numbers. The 4th gen pulls more than the Cobra but the Cobra was 5 mph faster in the slalom course because of the IRS rear suspension and that was with struts up front. I think the 4th gen would clean the Cobras tach if it had IRS in the rear.

Well there is no way a 3rd Gen "outhandles" a 4th Gen, but that does not mean the struts are no good. Combined with an IRS rear, the 5th Gen's should handle very well.

What, if the SS had nitrous and drag radials, and the guy driving the Vette was 350 lbs? Do you have the specifics as to this SS vs. Corvette road course battle?
