  • Who wants my car? raffle giveaway.

I am kicking around the idea of raffling off my car. Raffle tickets 5/piece, I need 10000 tickets sold. I have an extreme case in my mouth, doctor wants 43000. Basically I was born with only 5 adult teeth, the rest are baby. It's getting worse and worse.

I am thinking about putting together a website with more details.

What do you guys think? Think it would work? A lot of people think bad dental is bad planning. Not the case with me, I'll put details later. It is a deformity, and it really is a disability that is out of my control. Insurance says it's congenital, cosmetic whatever. The pain is getting worse, and teeth are falling out of my head, the longer I wait, the worse it's going to be.

I was thinking if I could post here, and get it posted on cz28.com I could raise the money. I do NOT want to sell my car, but I can't think of any other way to get $43000. We got the quote in 2004 and have been trying ways to come up with the money (my mom and I), but nothing is working. Can't refi their house so that's out....

You guys think people would be down for this? I mean, people love gambling right?

    10000 tickets, 5 bucks/ticket, that puts me @ $50,000.

I just want a general consensus from you guys, before I go make this. If 9/10 people here think it's a decent idea, then the majority of the guys on the bigger sites will.

Be nice to have a chance to win a nice 97 z28 for just a $5 ticket.

I got the idea from a raffle they had here. It was for a new corvette. They raised like $100,000 for this vette, and it went to a REALLY good cause. The dearborn police dept like they don't make as much money as they want already, right?

    What do you guys think?

I am very sorry to hear about your medical condition, but you might want to check out the laws regarding raffling off an automobile. It is strictly illegal in many cases.

Damn, I never thought of that. I didn't know it was illegal in a lot of states. I'll check it out.

black thunder, I was going to look for a script. It would be something like... You make a paypal donation and fill out an online form. The form will then generate a number and email it to you with a confirmation, and at the same time store it in a database on the sites server next to your name and email. Then at the end I'd have a number generator generate a number for the winner. I was going to check to see if ebay had some kind of raffle thing where it was all done through their site, and I wouldn't have to do anything but list it. Whoever wins is responsible for pickup or pay for shipping and whatever else.

But then again, like they did with that corvette... They raffled it off here in MI, so I doubt it's illegal here. I'll still have to check into it.

It was just a brainstorm idea.

Generally speaking, if the raffle takes place in order to raise money for a non-profit organization, Police Dept., Fire Dept., School, Library, cure for a disease, or similar cause, the raffle can be allowed.

Even if a charity or non-profit organization wishes to raffle a car, the organization must register with the Secretary of State’s Office as a charitable or nonprofit organization. Then they must obtain a State license and a permit in order to hold the raffle within the parameters of the law.

For the benefit of an individual, raffling an automobile is ususally strictly forbidden for obvious reasons.

Teeth are cosmetic?? That's news to me! Gotta love the insurance companies.

I think you'll find more folks here go for it than other boards. You've been a regular poster here for some time. On the other hand, I've seen some crazier things on the internet. Like the "send me a dollar so I can get my life back together" pages. I think you're biggest problem, aside from legal issues, is convincing people it's legit.

Just an idea thurr budday. I just wanted opinions, considering everything is legal.

Joe, yeah, there's going to be a lot of haters. "I worked hard my whole life for what I got, you want to get something for nothing, blah blah blah." Unless you're terminally ill nobody really cares, but this is a deformity, like somebody born without an arm, or something. Not that extreme, I know, not even close, but it's still a disability, in my mind anyway. I have no way of getting this cash, so I'm willing to put up what I love the most, and the only thing of any real value, the Z.

Short of winning the lotto, this money isn't coming. Time is precious, I wouldn't mind this out if my jaw bone wouldn't start deteriorating, then I'm going to really be in for it later in life, needing more surgery and bone grafts to replace it. Plus my face will get deformed, I've already had two surgeries too.

It is legit. I will be posting pictures on this website and I'll scan the paperwork I got from the doctor. It describes the entire process, with prices for everything. It was $43000 in 2004... My mom called and had the paperwork faxed to her a few months ago, and the woman wrote a note saying it's going to be higher, cause implant prices went up. Also, I may need bone grafts for the studs to set in, because I've lost a lot of bone in my face from the lacking teeth.

              Try eating with these chops!
Nasty pic of my lower teeth

And yeah insurance companies are awesome. It's "pre-existing" you were born with it, so we can't cover it. And umm... crooked teeth aren't something pre-existing that you're born with it? Whatever, insurance companies are bogus.

Just an idea! I might not even go through with this, I'm just kicking idea's around, So nobody flame please.

Relax, nobody is going to hate the fact that you are simply seeking out a way to finance the fix to your medical condition. But, you just have to consider the big picture for a moment and not perceive this medical condition as an excuse to blame everyone else. I'm sure I don't have explain why you are going to get some opposing opinions in regards to raffling your car.

You should try to apply for a medical grant and/or loan. There are tons of organizations out there that are willing to pay for a significant part if not the entire cost of the procedure. Google "medical grants" and you will find a significant amount of information. You may consider calling other insurance companies to ask them about the procedure that you need.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

lol, thanks! Can't say I'd argue with taking it back!

Shoot, I should just try a raffle to raise $20,000, to give people a better chance of winning, more incentive to gamble. Get half the work done and get me by until I can afford to have this done on my own.

Selling 10,000 tickets will be difficult. That is a lot of tickets.

Well I think it is a great idea, it will take a ton of promotion. Not to mention if you are unable to sell all the tickets, you will still have to go through with it. You could end up losing.

                        Just my .02.

Sorry to hear about the condition man. I'd raffle them off for more than 5, maybe ten or somewhere in between, raise more money for a raffle to win a car, whats a couple bucks? I'm sure most people would buy more than one ticket, I know I would just to help out. I'm with nightrage on this one. If I won, I would be happy knowing I helped out and you keep the ride.

I think you'd be hard pressed to sell that many tickets. And as was pointed out, there are some serious legal issues here. I think you'd be better off trying to find another insurance company or working with the one you have now. Get your doctor in the fight. If it really is painful and really is a serious medical problem, your doctor should be fighting the insurance company with you. He can give them evidence that this is not just a cosmetic procedure. Threaten legal action against the insurance company. Many times insurance companies will stall and deny until they are really pushed to do what was right all along.

I think you'd have better luck going this route than raffling your car, but I wish you the best of luck with your condition.

Just a thought...... if funds are tight, check into having it done at your closest College. The schools need subjects for the instructors to teach on. Everything that I've heard suggests that the care is good, the price is low too.
