  • The Solstice GM should have built.....

From an article in the Jully 2006 issue of Hot Rod magazine, with the title "AMERICAN BADASS":

Joint "project car" build by Hot Rod magazine, and GM engineers.... factory supported.

Starting with a 3,000# solstice, they gutted it, bought an LS7 crate engine (519HP SAE out of the box), added 1-3/4" headers and a GM HOT cam to make 600flywheel HP..... with NO other changes. Drop it in the Solstice, and with full intake, and full exhaust, its still making 585 flywheelHP and 540 lb-ft of torque.

Now the 3,000# Solstice, with the LS7 engine, a T56 from an SSR, a limited slip IRS center-section from a Caddy STS-V (3.23 gears), full roll cage, 14" Brembo's, 19" wheels, and GM designed suspension upgrades (using STOCK attachment points) weighs 3,700#. So they put it on a diet of carbon fiber panels and strategic weight reduction and get it to 2,880# (52% front/48% rear).

    Performance stats:

    1/4-mile:
    Solstice - 10.99@133mph
    Z06 - 12.0@124mph
    Porsche Carrera GT - 11.1@133mph
    Ferrari Enzo - 11.0@ 133mph
    Lambo Murceliago - 11.7@133mph

    600-ft slalom:
    Solstice - 74.9mph (1.05 G's)
    Z06 - 70.8mph
    Porsche Carrera GT - 73.2mph
    Ferrari Enzo - 71.0mph
    Lambo Murceliago - 66.2mph

    Braking from 60mph:
    Solstice - 95ft
    Z06 - 110ft
    Porsche Carrera GT - 101ft
    Ferrari Enzo - 106ft
    Lambo Murceliago - 110ft

    Cost:
    Solstice - ????
    Z06 - $69K
    Porsche Carrera GT - $448K
    Ferrari Enzo - $653K
    Lambo Murceliago - 285K

The Solstice was run on soft compound "street" tires for the slalom and braking, and BFG 315/30-19 Drag Radials at the track. It was "traction" challenged, as were all of the cars listed above.

That's awesome, Fred. Sounds a lot like the Mallett V8 Solstice and Sky. I agree... They should have been modern day Cobras from the factory.

At least Mallett offers packages for the Soltice and Sky starting at $20K (this doesn't include the car). The $20K package puts the LS2 in the engine bay. Other options are a 500HP LS2, a 600HP supercharged LS2, a 505Hp LS7, a 402 stroker, and a 427. They also upgrade brakes, suspension, driveshaft, etc...

Still, the one you posted sounds like it's an absolute monster... especially being NA.
