the style is called "donk"...don't ask me how I know.
~~"Honky tonk....ba donka donk"~~ Sorry, just had to.
1996 White T/A, LT-1 auto with only aftermarket Flowmasters, shift kit, and a LG Motorsports G2 cold air kit.....that's it! She can't eat all the 'Stangs but will die trying.
Donk refers to 70's cars lifted with big rims, boxes are 80's, bubbles are 90's. It mostly is referring to Caprices on the latter of the two (boxy style caprice, bubble caprice). A guy at work is BIG into this stuff, but I think it's the stupidest looking thing on the planet. I'd rather see folks go old school with 13X7 full reversed Daytons on a 64 Impala with hydraulics than a purpose built lift kit for a 1996 Impala SS so 30's will clear the fenderwells!

I saw a 90's Caprice the other day that was "pimped out" like that. I just figured it was some local moron. I can't believe there are enough people who do this to warrant an entire magazine.

A rim that large seriously changes the loads on the wheel bearing, axle, hub and brakes.
Say a stock wheel is a total of 22" total overall diameter including the tire. That is a 11" lever arm working against the hub, axle, bearing and brakes.
Now replace that with a wheel that has a 32" overall diameter. The lever arm is now 17"! The amount of torque applied to the hub, bearings and brakes is now much higher. Higher than those parts were ever designed to handle.
To see what I am talking about... imagine using a 5" ratchet on a bolt. see how tight you can get it. Now use a 12" ratchet on that same bolt and you will be able to get another half turn on it. The longer lever arm allows you to apply much more torque to the bolt, just like the larger rim will apply much more torque to the parts it is attached to, including the brakes.
I bet a car with 26" rims on it has a hard time stopping safely from highway speeds. Just what I need!! Some ghetto hoopty worth $900 with $3000 rims on it smashing into my rearend at a light because he cant stop in time!
