It could be simply to give him the cash, or it could be to buy him something, or both. Whatever we decide. Keep in mind he's going to have car repair bills, medical bills, lost wages, etc.
Another thing I thought of that I could do is this: I could set up an eBay dutch auction and sell something incidental, like a paper clip or simply a note thanking you for helping out. I'd sell these for like $10. The bid price ($10) would be the donation to Joe. This way anyone who didn't just want to to send money to me or any other stranger through paypal would have the protection of eBay and my 100% feedback rating. Also, anyone here who might visit other boards and want to spread the word about Joe would be able to send these people to the auction. Also it would e there for random people to stumble on and help a stranger out if they so chose. 100% of money donated/sold would be donated to Joe in the form of a cash donation or a gift or both, whatever we decide on.
What do you guys think?Dave M

If it's just us, then how about a bid for $0.01 and $9.99 "handling" fee? Cause ebay will get some percentage on each auction won, won't they? Or are "buy it now" fees a flat rate?94 Black T/A GT, Advanced Induction 355, 3200 stall, built 4L60E, Moser 9", Baer Brakes, Shooting for 11s...

no. i plan on calling him this weekend. wev'e been text messaging up to now.. and my skills at that suk...LOLOriginally posted by Dave MKnowing Joe he'll be out there doing all the work himself, wheelchair or not.
Ken, any new news on how he's doing physically? How long will he be in the chair? How about the hand? Is he expected to be making a full recovery with full use of his hand and legs? Any info on exactly how the accident happened? It sounds like someone else was at fault.

talked to Joe today......
for a long time. damn.. he sounds rough..he's been thru alot.
I know the whole story... but out of respect for him, i'll let him describe what happened........ but let me tell you.... i talked to him the whole way down to the gym when i was in the gto...then in the parking lot of gym for a while. when we hung up.... i was in shock...... he is lucky to be with us, friends. my God......he is soooooooooo lucky. The Lord was on his side, thats for dern sure.
and that guy that caused this...... i wish i could get on a plane and fly to fla...find that sorry mf and beat him senseless....... it was down right deliberate what happened. Thank God witness didnt let him drive away..cause he was going to.....
he's going to try and get pics monday of the car... i say...we try and help him rebuild it. we got enough here that can do that...and somebody mentioned that already. that would mean more to him than anything, i think. ebay parts, all that stuff.
i will say this... and this is joe. they wanted to cut the roof off to get him out..he wouldnt let em... he bent the steering colume up off his legs and positioned himself at the drivers window to be extracted......... dern... thats JOe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow! sounds like joe has some grounds for a serous lawsuit here. I'm not normally the suing type, but if the accident was someone else's fault, and it was deliberate(!) and there was serious bodily injury, any lawyer would have a fild day with that.
This all the more reason for people to donate a little something for Joe. Paypal dfm1018@comcast.net to donate some money towards Joe's fund, or PM me for my mailing address. We can give him cash or use it to reuild his car for him. It's up to you guys. We've got a lot of great people here, let's show oe how much we care about him.Dave M
