  • ??Rear Wheel Drive Import List??

Anyone have a list of rear wheel drive imports? I'm looking at getting another car, but I want reliability, so I'm goin' for import.. If you could include the year span, too, that would be great.. (Ex. 1993-2003 Pontiac Firebird)

    So far I have

    ?? - Current - Mazda RX-8
    ?? - Current - Mazda RX7
    1985 - ? - Toyota Cellica
    ?? - ?? - Toyota MR2
    1985 - Current - Toyota Supra
    ?? - Current - Honda S2000
    1984 - ?? - Nissan Maxima
    ?? - Current - Nissan 350Z
    ?? - ?? Nissan 300zx
    ?? - ?? - Nissan 200sx,240zx, etc.
    ?? - ?? Porche 944

That's what I got.. Any help would be appriciated, or if someone could dirrect me to another link, or forum, that would help too!!

    Thanks guys!

What's so funny about my car being in the shop 4 times now 3 of which were for engine/transmission related problems @102k miles, and that my fiance's civic @213k miles hasn't had to go into the shop for anything more than a tune up and oil cange?

I hated to admit it, also, but it's true... imports are just more reliable than domestic.. how often do you see a domestic car made between the 1980s to current over 250k miles still running without incident?

My friends Jimmy... The odometer quit working at about 330k, still kicking. My buddies 93 Suburban with 240K, runs like a champ, but gas mileage has been suffering with age. My Z has 110k, all thats failed is the fuel pump.

My conquest on the other hand... I loved it more than anything but I couldn't justify rebuilding it again after it kept going on me.

My friends 88 RX7 just got a new motor put in it after his last motor blew a seal inside and kept burning oil and coolant. Everybody I know with a DSM has problem after problem.

Don't forget you're talking about a Civic. That is one of the most reliable cars ever built. Don't get it twisted that all imports are reliable because the Civic is.

I laughed because you are going to get an import thinking the grass is greener on that side.... You're going to be in for a rude awakening. You'll learn.

Most civics that are on the road in america, are built in america.

My friends Ford F-150 has 275,000 miles on it.

My 91 camaro had 125,000 miles with no problems at all, and my friends 82 firebird had about 185,000 miles on it with routine maintenance. Before being sold of course.

I get this all the time...I'm a salesman for Chevrolet and our sister store is Honda. Their service area is 57% more busy than ours...and believe me when I say it's not oil changes and tire rotations.

My TA is at 232K and runs like new...only this I replaced was the waterpump at 175K.

Imports aren't that realiable...live and learn. Hondas are notorious for bad trannys and window motors....weak alternators and oil pumps...but yeah.

I guess this is what I get for trying to glorify imports on a domestic site... I understand that most cars have their normal problems, but what I'm asking for is something that's not going to have trouble every time I turn round...

I guess I've just had horrible luck with domestic, but I've had a 94 firebird @ 94k (Replaced the tranny twice before selling for 400 bucks) a 88 dodge daytona @ 84K (Burned holes in 3 of the 4 pistons for no apparant reason), 97 firebird @102k (Previously mentioned) and a 1990 cuttlass supreme @ 95k (Bad motor)... I'm only 23 years old... that's almost a car a year.. I'm just tired of the domestic scene..

So, back to my previous request... RWD imports (Did honda ever make a RWD before the s2000?)

it's not a fair question. I mean..... Lets say you bang a really hot mexican girl. Does that mean all of them are bad to the bone? No. Same with cars. It depends on the car, each is different. I've had two japanese imports, and while they were great cars that I loved, they had their problems. On the other hand, the camaro has been problem free. I know when i go turn the key, the car is going to start. I haven't had the same luck with any other cars. My girls tempo has almost 200k. I had to replace the starter last week, and thats the only problems she's had. My friend on the other hand had a tempo, and it had the starter, water pump, trans, etc.. replace before he finally gave up on it when it totally lost oil pressure.

Every car is different. There are people that own civics that have horror stories. The grass is always greener on the other side is all I'm saying.

You will get your import and learn that it really doesn't make that much of a difference. It's tru, some cars break more than others, but you can't have two categories: Domestic and Import and say that one will outlast the other. Too many factors involved. You probably had cars that had been bought as fixer uppers and flipped so the previous owner could turn a small profit. I see it all the time. My neighbor will buy a car/truck that needs a small fix. He'll replace the intake mani. gasket or do something to the trans, and sell it for 300 more than he paid, and 2 weeks later the dude that bought it is in for more than he ever bargained for.

The other thing to consider is parts are that fixes for imports are expensive. My roommate had an 88 Honda Accord Lx-i. Had to have the exhaust fixed twice cause it required a special 'flexible' type that no one could get so they just welded it shut. Had an injector go bad, brake booster....bad brakes in general, had to get it tuned up every other month. Had 185k when it got used as a down payment. Now he has a Kia Sportage and gets less gas mileage then I do in town and less on the highway with of my care power. The Kia has had three tune ups in the past four years and ate a brake rotor while he was driving it.

you could get a civic, but how does a civic look compared to your firebird. i think the civics look pretty silly, and even if they are guaranteed not to break down ever , i still wouldnt get one.

If a car doesnt look right ,sound right, feel right, then i wont buy it..

For example I had an alfa romeo 166

and even though i had problems with it i still bought another one

and i still have them both..

if u want a reliable car, get one from an older gentleman asking a couple hundred more then what its worth. poke around and make sure its clean and also, it may sound rude but if he looks a lil on the poor side, u kno somethings were just hacked, but if he looks middle class, u kno most of what it needed were done. im a automotive tech. i see imports, german, and domestic in my shop with different problems. if u want a good car, get with a toyota, chevy, honda or nissan. chrylser and ford have issues, unless its the last gen taurus then those are a decent car, just look out for the brake lines

You seem to assume that all the "imports" come from Japan..... a bit of bias.

Oh and just FYI, the 300zx is NOT a car you want to get if you want reliability. Just visit their forums, the owners themselves will say they are very maintenance heavy and that you'll need deep pockets to own one.
