He said the same thing as you when I told him how much water I drink, and it did make sense, I was drinking a lot of water.

However, it's not so much how much water you drink, it's how fast you drink it. Being awake for 16 hours a day (which I'm usually up like 17-18), and consuming 3 gallons of water in that period of time, that is about 24 oz of water per hour. In other words, a 20oz aquafina bottle every hour. A healthy pair of kidneys can EASILY handle this much water.

A healthy adult can handle about 500 oz of water/day, which equates to almost 4 gallons.

The condition you talk about is out there, but it is rare, and mostly occurs in infants or people with diseases.

stay away from mass building supplements, they're loaded with calories. Stick to low calorie whey protein, clean high carb/protein diet, lots of water. Eliminate calories from pop. Try to drop about 30 pounds while building muscle. You could be 180 solid in 3 months if you really want to be. That'd be a good weight for someone your height.

Sorry the 8 grams thing was a typo, i was thinking of another suppliment and that was the reccomendation (of the other suppliment). You can say all you want about how great creatine is, but the truth is it is dangerous and can lead to serious renal issues later on in life.

Raro, I am not doubting the benefits of creatine. There are just other things out there beside it that are much safer. The FDA does not regulate creatine, so of course you can practically come up with any claim and it could be valid. But of course bodybuilding.com is going to praise creatine, because they sell it!

EDIT: Best advice, see your doctor, and he will no doubt tell you to not take that stuff.

when i saw him for some lumps I had developed and told him what I was taking, he said to drink more water. You haven't backed up any of your creatine bashing with any reputable source.

No where in this post have I doubted the capabilities of creatine. What I have provided are facts that renal damage/failure can occur.

There is limited systematic study of the safety, pharmacology, or toxicology of creatine. Individuals using creatine, including athletes, should be monitored by a healthcare professional. Users are advised to inform their physician or other healthcare professional.

Some individuals may experience gastrointestinal symptoms, including loss of appetite, stomach discomfort, diarrhea, or nausea.

Creatine may cause muscle cramps or muscle breakdown, leading to muscle tears or discomfort. Weight gain and increased body mass may occur. Heat intolerance, fever, dehydration, reduced blood volume, or electrolyte imbalances (and resulting seizures) may occur.

Chronic administration of a large quantity of creatine is reported to increase the production of formaldehyde, which may potentially cause serious unwanted side effects.

Based on a case report, creatinine may increase the risk of compartment syndrome of the lower leg, a condition characterized by pain in the lower leg associated with inflammation and ischemia (diminished blood flow), which is a potential surgical emergency.
                  - Mayo Clinic

You are pushing your body too hard with creatine, it's the equivalent of flooring your engine everytime you leave a red light. After a while that engine needs repaired/replaced.

                    a touchy subject...

Thomas - I think you have hit one of those topics where everyone has an opinion and we all think we are right.

The best advice you can get is to get your diet in order first. Supplements have a place, but most of the time peopole just throw their $ away on whatever is advertised the most. Supplements are just that a "supplement" to your diet and training routine. No matter how good a supp. is if you aren't training right, recovering right, and eating right it will be useless.

Check out www.bevnut.com for some good dieting tips to help you lose the extra lbs. Check around for one of these body fat meters . They may not be 100% accurate but it is a great way to tell the difference between losing fat and muscle while you are dieting, and later on when you start bulking again.

It is nearly impossible to gain muscle and lose fat at the same time because you must drop your caloric intake to lose fat, but you need to raise it to build muscle. So if I were you, I would lose the 15lbs first. I just lost 20lbs in 5 weeks following a strict lean meat, vegetables, and whey protein diet. It is the standard 6 meals a day body building diet. Nothing weird or crazy just eat clean and smart for about 4 weeks and the extra weight will be gone. Then you can concentrate on bulking up.

Let me know if you want more details on the diet.

And one other peice of advice don't neglect the cardio when you are trying to lose weight. It makes a big difference, that's coming from experience.

When I was in high school I joined Football in order to bulk up. I hit my peak when I just didnt seem to get pasted my max bench of 175 (I weighed 155lb).
I had a very good diet and I needed an extra boost.I started taking creatine and within about 3 months of some Serious training and extreme cardio I went from weighing 155 up to 195 (eating a lot of meats.) And I raised my Max Bench from 175 up to 245. I was drinking around 1-2 gallons of water a day as well as protien shakes and Fruit. Does it work? Yes but the key is you have to drink a lot of fluids b/c it draws the liquid from ur body and puts it into ur muscles. Rigth now Im not on anything, just some what work out. I now drink like Raro, Around 2-3 gallons of water a day. Go "tinkle" a lot but its the only way I can Get my liver in working order. Had a Mild drinking problem the year following high school and Jack Daniels Loves to eat up Livers when drinking it straight everyday.
